In een omgrachting gelegen OVERBLIJFSELEN van het 15de-eeuwse Slot Brakel, bestaande uit de resten van een rechthoekig woongebouw met twee ronde hoektorens, resten van de fundering van de donjon, ommuring en een waterput. De torens en het tussenliggende muurwerk van de voormalige woonvleugel worden aan grachtzijde geschoord door brokstukken van zware steunberen. De noordwestelijke hoektoren is in XIXb gedeeltelijk met kleine baksteen hersteld. Daarbij is een muur opgetrokken met een rondboogingang waarboven een steen met ingegroefde jaartallen (860, 1321, 1407, 1672, thans verdwenen), voorts een steen met een fragment van een opschrift in gotisch lettertype en fragmenten van een grafzerk uit de hervormde kerk met de wapens Pieck, Wijhe, Averinck, Gend en Vijgh. Een afgebrokkeld fragment van een gemetselde trap voert naar het ingestorte bovendeel van de toren. Aan weerzijden van de ingang bevinden zich spitsbogige nissen met zandstenen toten. Aan de binnenzijde van de toren nissen waarin in de 19de eeuw een museale uitstalling was van vondsten uit de slotgracht. Het muurwerk van het woongebouw bestaat uit grote bakstenen moppen. De in 1837 ingebrachte gotische en 16de-eeuwse decoratieve fragmenten zijn door vandalisme verdwenen. De kelder met tongewelf is ingestort. Van de zuidwestelijke ronde toren is alleen de schil overgebleven. Van de donjon, waterput en ommuring bevinden zich restanten in het terrein.

Description
In a moated enclosure the REMAINS of the 15th-century Slot Brakel, consisting of the remains of a rectangular residential building with two round corner towers, remains of the foundation of the keep, walling and a well. The towers and the wall between them of the former residential wing are buttressed on the moat side by fragments of heavy supporting piers. The north-west corner tower was partially repaired with small brick in the second half of the 19th century. In doing so a wall was constructed with a round-arch entrance, above which is a stone with incised dates (860, 1321, 1407, 1672, now lost), further a stone with a fragment of an inscription in Gothic script and fragments of a gravestone from the Reformed church bearing the coats of arms Pieck, Wijhe, Averinck, Gend and Vijgh. A crumbling fragment of a built-up staircase leads to the collapsed upper part of the tower. On either side of the entrance are pointed-arch niches with sandstone coping stones. On the interior of the tower are niches in which a museum display of finds from the castle moat was arranged in the 19th century. The walling of the residential building consists of large brick bonds. The Gothic and 16th-century decorative fragments brought in in 1837 have been lost to vandalism. The cellar with barrel vault has collapsed. Of the south-west round tower only the shell remains. Of the keep, well and walling there are remnants in the site.
