Omschrijving

Building on rectangular plan of two storeys and an attic storey high, under a hipped roof laid with blue tiles and corner chimney stacks with caps; the front facade five bays wide has a natural stone plinth, is closed at the ends by rusticated pilasters and has a somewhat raised central risalit with a semicircular termination. The entrance is located in the centre of the front facade. This has a simple sandstone surround and a pediment. Within it the dates 1644 R 1720 in Roman numerals. 1644: the founding year; 1720: the renewal of the house; R stands for 'renovatum'. Also the window above the entrance has a sandstone surround with blind recesses on either side. In the termination of the risalit is a round light. The entrance with early 19th-century worked panelled door, tall side lights and fanlight is flanked by two 40-pane sash windows with a mid-rail halfway (reconstruction from 1924). On the storey above five 30-pane sash windows with a mid-rail halfway. All windows are provided with shutters. The left side facade is closed by a straight cornice and has only on the right corner a 40-pane sash window as before. For the rest this facade is divided with blind recesses. Roof dormer with semicircular termination in the roof plane. The rear facade is closed at the ends with rusticated pilasters, at the top by a straight cornice. In the middle a three-sided projecting room with 8-pane windows, closed off by a cornice. Furthermore 40-pane sash windows as before on the ground floor and 30-pane sash windows as before on the storey above (reconstruction from 1924). Roof dormer with semicircular termination in the roof plane. Against the right side facade a lower and narrower extension under hipped roof. Rusticated pilasters on the corners. Three doors and a 12-pane window. In the seventies of the 20th century the extension was raised in connection with the installation of a bathroom on the storey above. On the forecourt side in the extension after 1910 a sandstone oeil-de-boeuf with sandstone surround was inserted. Roof dormer with semicircular termination in the roof plane. In the interior the structure of the rebuilding period, 1720, has been preserved. The layout is as follows. Behind the front door runs a passage to the rear, which opens onto the dome room. To the right in the passage is the stair to the upper storey. The passage is laid with marble slabs. Both rooms accessible from the passage have finely carved, early 18th-century oak doors. On the right lies the dining room which has two windows overlooking the forecourt. Composite beamwork and 17th-century wall panelling brought in around 1910. Wallpaper with imitation gold leather with floral motifs. High chimney with blue tiles from the early 20th century. On the left side of the passage lies the salon which has two windows overlooking the forecourt and one window facing the garden. In front of the windows shutters which slide into the wall and panelling. Marble chimney with plastered overmantel and ceiling with stucco decoration, both 19th-century. Behind the salon the back room with two windows. Finely plastered ceiling with putti with helmet and bow and arrow and corbels in the corners. Marble chimney with plastered overmantel, on which a medaillon with emperor's head on ribbons and festoons. From the back room and the passage the dome room is accessible. This room was three-sided extended between 1820 and 1841 and has an oval stucco ceiling with list. Grey-veined marble chimney, two blind wall cupboards. To the right back is the WC and next to it the kitchen with a chimney which is two steps higher than the rest of the ground floor, both with a window overlooking the Achterwaterallee. Below this lies the cellar. This is accessible from the scullery with pump and natural stone basin and hand water pump. The cellar has a cross vault with broad ribs that rest on pilasters at the sides and on a column in the middle. This is the oldest part of the house. The cellar may date from the founding of the house, 1644. On the storey above a central passage in which the steep stair to the attic. Here are the bedrooms and a bathroom in the extension. To the right front a room with composite beamwork on consoles and 17th-century wall panelling brought in around 1910. Chimney with painted decoration on the overmantel in the manner of Van Ostade. To the right back the Pink room adjoining bathroom. To the left front the Sleeping Beauty room, named after the painted canvases with scenes from the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty (installed in the twenties of the 20th century). In this room are wall panellings from the beginning of the 18th century. These will have been present in the house from the start. To the left back the Green room and in the middle back a room entirely panelled in 17th-century style with a bed alcove. On the attic is in the middle back a servants' room separated off with two built-in beds.
