Inleiding:
De coupureafsluiting in de Slaperdijk bij de doorvoering van de provinciale weg Renswoude - De Klomp (N224) was bestemd om bij het stellen van een inundatie in het kader van de Grebbelinie afvloeiing van het water naar het westen te verhinderen.
Omschrijving:
In 1939 aangelegd VERDEDIGINGSWERK. De coupureafsluiting is een onderdeel van de inundatievoorzieningen van de Valleistelling. Deze bestaat uit twee betonnen wanden in de dijklichamen van de Slaperdijk verspringend aan weerszijden van de N224. De beide wanden hebben een afmeting van 6,50 x 0,30 x 0,50 meter, met in het midden 2 x 2 schotbalksponningen. De ruimte tussen de schotbalksponningen is 0,80 meter. De afmetingen van de schotbalksponningen is 0,15 bij 00,6 meter. De constructie is in gewapend beton met stalen schotbalksponningen. In verband met de hoek, waarmee de weg de Slaperdijk kruist is de afsluiting schuin en verspringend in beide dijklichamen geplaatst.
Waardering:
De aanleg is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op:
a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw), b. het systeem van 'levende' veldversterking in de diepte (20ste eeuw)
Het betreft hier een complex dat in eerste aanleg een voorbeeld is van verdedigingswerken uit de periode:
fase 6: na 1918, 'levende' veldversterking
Ensemble waarde vanwege zijn ligging binnen het systeem van de Grebbelinie in het algemeen, in het bijzonder als nog gaaf bewaarde coupure in de liniedijk tussen het Werk aan de Roode Haan en de kern van de gemeente Leusden. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang van de onderdelen van het complex. Tenslotte is hier sprake van een gave/redelijk gave relatie met het schootsveld en inundatieveld
Het complex is zeldzaam omdat het een nog vrijwel compleet bestaand voorbeeld is van een authentieke coupure in de Grebbelinie en het is als zodanig representatief (karakteristiek) voor dit type verdedigingswerken.
Het complex is goed bewaard omdat nog vrijwel alle ertoe behorende onderdelen in meer of minder herkenbare vorm en functie aanwezig zijn.
