The register's description

- de bewoningsgeschiedenis; met als beroemde bewoner in de periode 1783-1824, burgemeester van Zwolle en dichter Rhijnvis Feith;

- de architectonische vormgeving;

- de kenmerkende ligging binnen de historische tuin- en parkaanleg;

Description of component 1: MAIN BUILDING (indicated on the accompanying map with number 1).

The MAIN BUILDING of the historic country estate Boschwijk was created in three construction phases. It is likely that the house was built as a one-storey 'storage building with yard' shortly before 1780 by Egbert Spaar. The house consists of a square block-shaped corps de logis with an upper floor, covered by a hipped roof clad with blue Dutch tiles, on which since 1892 a small bell tower has stood centrally at the front.

The corps de logis dating from circa 1770 presumably originally had no upper floor; the upper floor was built around the second quarter of the 19th century. On both sides the corps is flanked by slightly projecting side wings. Both one-storey side wings are covered by a cut-off hipped roof on which a small bell stands. The side wings are of later date than the corps de logis and presumably built after Rhijnvis Feith became owner of the country estate in 1783.

In the front facade is the entrance, consisting of a double panel door with fanlight above decorated with an ornamental crest. The side wings are provided at the front with a projecting three-sided bay window with flat roof. The regularly arranged facades of the main building are provided with H-windows from the early 20th century, some T-windows and two doors. Presumably during the course of the second half of the 19th century the fireplaces were built, enabling the house to be used outside the summer period.

In 1949 the house was purchased by the municipality of Zwollerkerspel and was used as the mayor's residence and council chamber. Until 1967 the house served this function. In 1950 the single-storey extension on the left side wing was converted into a council chamber. Far right, until circa 1950 there was an orangery; here there is now a terrace and, owing to insufficient monumental values, a garage not worthy of protection.

INTERIOR. The interior has been modernized several times due to the three construction phases the house has undergone, but has largely retained the layout of circa 1920.

Valuation

The MAIN BUILDING (Boschwijk) is of general importance because of:

- its history of occupation; with the notable resident during the period 1783-1824, mayor of Zwolle and poet Rhijnvis Feith;

- its architectural design;

- its characteristic location within the historic garden and park layout;

- its functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the historic country estate.
