Introduction

LAYOUT and the LANE SYSTEM of the Heilig Land-Stichting as developed from 1913 onwards. The complex includes four lanes which are of importance, namely (from north to south): the Carmelweg, the Engelenlaan, the Mgr. Suyslaan and the Profetenlaan.

Description

The Carmelweg forms the connection between Johanneslaan and the Carmel Cloister; the Engelenlaan is situated in the axis of the Cenacle Church; the Mgr. Suyslaan is nowadays the main access road to the Cenacle Church with rectory, the Casa Nova cloister and the cemetery; the Profetenlaan is situated in the axis of the unfinished Sacred Heart Basilica and is nowadays the main entrance to the museum grounds and also forms in reverse direction an important sight axis formed by the view from the atrium of the Sacred Heart Basilica onto the Nebo Cloister. Other important sight axes are formed among others by the view from Golgotha onto the Ascension Dome and the view from the Johanneslaan over the field situated between this lane and the Carmelweg, onto Casa Nova and Cenacle Church.
