Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HOOFDGEBOUW (Eerde).
Waardering
Het HOOFDGEBOUW (Eerde) is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege de gaaf bewaarde architectonische vormgeving;
- vanwege de bouw- en ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis, die representatief is voor veel 17de en 18de eeuwse edelmanswoningen;
- vanwege de nagenoeg oorspronkelijke plattegrond en indeling;
- vanwege de kenmerkende ligging binnen de oorspronkelijke vroeg-18de-eeuwse, formele parkaanleg;

Description
Description component 1: MAIN BUILDING (Eerde).
Huis Eerde was built in 1715 on the site of a destroyed medieval castle. It is a moated, fully cellared, red brick building on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of two storeys and an attic storey under a hipped roof with corner chimneys and roof dormers. The symmetrical front facade is nine window bays wide. The three-bay-wide central risalit breaks through the eaves line and is crowned by a curved pediment with decorative stone vases on either side. In the pediment field centrally a three-light window flanked by blind window openings. Above the three-light window a clock. The central axis is further decorated with a rusticated stone entrance surround, which continues in the surround of the window on the first storey and above it ends in an alliance coat of arms. On either side of this coat of arms a stone band with the building year in Roman numerals, M, D and C (left) and C, X, V (right). The double multi-pane entrance door with fanlight is preceded by a stone staircase with richly carved stone balustrade. The design of the balustrade corresponds with that of the bridge to the forecourt and must therefore be attributed to architect I.H. Eberson and dated circa 1854. In the window bays multi-pane sash windows (3x3 and 3x2) and at the level of the basement double opening multi-pane windows fitted with grilles. The four-bay-wide side facades are fitted with Empire-style sash windows (2x2 and 2x1) and basement windows as in the front facade. The symmetrical rear facade has, like the front facade, nine window bays, with windows as in the side facades. The three-bay-wide central section projects slightly forward. On either side of the central section (front and rear facades) and at the ends of the facades pilasters. The facades are finished with a simple cornice.
The layout and ground plan of the building have remained virtually unchanged since construction. The (Baroque) interior finishes also date largely from the beginning of the 18th century. These include original wall panelling, ceilings, floors, doors and transom lights, interior shutters, hinges and fasteners, fireplaces, fireplace panelling and fireplace surrounds and in the front-left room an built-in sideboard cabinet in Marot style. In the great hall until a few years ago lay a floor carpet (circa 1805) with the alliance coat of arms of the then owner Andries van Pallandt and his wife Albertine van Neukirchen, called Nijenhuis. The walls of this room are hung with four tapestries (circa 1700) on which mythological scenes are depicted: Jupiter and Callisto; Triumph of Bacchus; Venus and Adonis; Hermes and young Bacchus. In the hall a remarkable hanging staircase. Furthermore elements from later stylistic periods, including stucco ceilings and a fireplace surround in Empire style.
Appraisal
The MAIN BUILDING (Eerde) is of general interest:
- because of its age;
- because of the well-preserved architectural design;
- because of the construction and development history, which is representative of many 17th and 18th century manor houses;
- because of the virtually original ground plan and layout;
- because of the well-preserved interior finishes from the time of construction (circa 1715) and from later stylistic periods;
- because of the characteristic location within the original early 18th-century formal park layout;
- because of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the estate.
