Inleiding

- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een gecombineerd molenbedrijf uit de 19e eeuw dat in de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw is uitgebreid met een motoraandrijving;

- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de geschiedenis van de graanmaalderijen en houtzagerijen van Nederland en de industriële ontwikkeling van Overijssel en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;

- vanwege ensemblewaarden aangezien hij bestaat uit meerdere relicten van een molencomplex, waaronder de aangebouwde zaagschuur, het aangebouwde motorhok met motor en het aanwezige gaande werk;

- vanwege situationele waarden betreffende de naastgelegen infrastructuur;

- vanwege de gaafheid van de molenbiotoop;

Introduction

MILL BODY WITH SAW SHED AND MOTOR HOUSE. The eight-sided upper-rotating mill named 'De Toekomst', previously also known as 'the mill of Kruizinga', built as a post mill in the past, is presumably constructed between 1820 and 1887 and was initially fitted out solely as a grain mill. Around 1890 the mill was extended on the east side with a sawmill. For this purpose, the paltrok 'Het Witte Schaap' dismantled at Westzaan was used, which was set up in a fixed position and converted into a saw shed with sawing mechanism. Around 1937 the mill was extended on the north side with a stone motor house containing a diesel engine which drove a pair of millstones located on the gallery floor by means of a system of cast-iron wheels and belts. The mill was dismantled around 1950, whereby the sail cross, the working parts above the gallery floor and the working parts of the sawmill were dismantled. The cap, part of the body and the gallery were dismantled in 1966. The mill body acquired a function as an animal supplies shop and continues to be used as such to the present day. The mill body lies to the north of the filled-in Hoofdvaart.

Description

The mill body consists of a mortared brick lower eight-sided section, the lowest part of a pine-wood upper eight-sided section, an attached wooden shed made from the reused Zaanse paltrok 'Het Witte Schaap' and an attached brick motor house. The lower eight-sided section is provided with angle quoins. In the lower eight-sided section there is a roller course from the former inlet grotto from Kruizinga's district. The mill body consisting of four storeys is provided with a wooden pitched roof. The high central part of the saw shed is provided with a gabled roof in the transverse direction, while the side sheds are provided with gabled roofs in the longitudinal direction. The motor house is provided with a lean-to roof. In the mill remains, on the gallery floor there is a pair of millstones present which via the present cast-iron wheels and belts can be driven by the single-cylinder Deutz diesel engine present in the motor house.

Valuation

The mill body with saw shed and motor house is of general importance:

- by reason of construction-historical values as a recognisable and representative relic of a combined milling business from the 19th century which was extended with a motor drive in the first half of the 20th century;

- by reason of cultural-historical values as part of the history of grain mills and sawmills in the Netherlands and the industrial development of Overijssel and local history;

- by reason of ensemble values in that it consists of multiple relics of a mill complex, including the attached saw shed, the attached motor house with motor and the present working parts;

- by reason of situational values concerning the neighbouring infrastructure;

- by reason of the completeness of the mill biotope;

- by reason of its rarity as one of the remaining mill complexes, in which a rare combination of functions, remains of a former inlet grotto and an extremely rare secondary paltrok originating from the Zaanstreek can be seen.
