Inleiding
Aan de noord-westrand van Dedemsvaart, langs de ringweg, staat een natte telescopische GASHOUDER. Deze is in 1932 gebouwd in opdracht van het gemeentelijk gasbedrijf Hoogeveen door N.V. Scheepswerf en Gashouderbouw Jonker en Stans uit Hendrik Ido Ambacht, in samenwerking met de scheepsbouwer H.B. Peters uit Dedemsvaart.
Het gas werd geleverd door het gasbedrijf van Hoogeveen.
Bij de gashouder staat een gasfitterswoning die van ondergeschikt belang is en buiten de bescherming valt.
Omschrijving
De gashouder met een inhoud van 700m3 en een diameter van 12 m bestaat uit een reservoir (klok) met eromheen een geklonken plaatstalen mantel waarop een geleidingsvakwerk is gezet met stijlen, schoren en een rondgang van profielstaal. De telescopische houder heeft onder de klok een rand (telescoop) van min of meer gelijke hoogte en diameter. Wanneer de houder gevuld is wordt de telescoop meegenomen naar boven langs de stijlen van het vakwerk, wat vergemakkelijkt wordt door geleiderollen. In deze stand is de leus "kookt op gas" zichtbaar.
De klok en de telescoop zijn in water verzonken zodat het gas niet kan ontsnappen. De uitkragende rondgang met borstwering wordt door stalen schoren gedragen en is bereikbaar via een steile open trap. Bovenin het vakwerk zit een ladder die op de rondgang uitkomt.

On the north-western edge of Dedemsvaart, along the ring road, stands a wet telescopic GAS HOLDER. This was built in 1932 on the orders of the municipal gas company Hoogeveen by N.V. Scheepswerf en Gashouderbouw Jonker en Stans from Hendrik Ido Ambacht, in collaboration with the shipbuilder H.B. Peters from Dedemsvaart.

Description
The gas holder with a capacity of 700m3 and a diameter of 12 m consists of a reservoir (bell) with around it a riveted sheet-steel shell on which a guiding framework of stanchions, braces and a gangway of profiled steel is erected. The telescopic holder has beneath the bell a collar (telescope) of roughly equal height and diameter. When the holder is filled the telescope is lifted upwards along the stanchions of the framework, which is facilitated by guide rollers. In this position the motto "kookt op gas" is visible.
The bell and the telescope are submerged in water so that the gas cannot escape. The projecting gangway with parapet is supported by steel braces and is accessible via a steep open stair. At the top of the framework is a ladder that leads onto the gangway.
