Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 1: LANDHUIS BURGST.
- de cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde als hoofdgebouw van de door baron Nahuys rond 1790 aangelegde buitenplaats Burgst;
- de architectuurhistorische waarde, als relatief zeldzaam voorbeeld in Brabant van een landhuis in Lodewijk XVI-stijl in het centrum van een historische parkaanleg;
- de ouderdom;
- de ensemblewaarden van het huis met beide bijgebouwen;
- de ensemblewaarden die het huis in de historische parkaanleg vertegenwoordigt;
- de gaafheid van zowel exterieur als interieur.

Description
Description of component 1: LANDHUIS BURGST.
Classicist main building on rectangular plan, consisting of a main wing preceded by a terrace covered by an open portico with slightly projecting side wings on either side. The house was built in 1790 by the then owner, the well-known Dutch freemason Mr. C.W.J. Nahuys, later baron Nahuys van Burgst, who presumably drew up the design for this house. Nahuys contracted the construction of the house on 10 July 1790 to Carolus Oomen, who delivered the house on 11 December 1790 and received f 1230,- for it. The house was erected at a new location on the estate with the front facade set perpendicular to the tower of the Grote Kerk of Breda, a sight line that has been preserved to this day. The house was conceived in strict relationship with the green surroundings: the aforementioned sight line forms the main axis of the layout that likewise came into being at this time, which as such centres the layout on the entrance of the house. The French Classicist concept was also followed with regard to the positioning of the outbuildings; the outbuildings are situated symmetrically at right angles to the main building and enclose with the main building on three sides the drive located on the main axis.
The whitewashed, partially cellared brick house is covered by a shallow hipped roof tiled in grey, which at the height of the projections turns at right angles. At this turning point on the ridge ends stands a rectangular chimney.
The plasterwork of the 7-bay-wide house is executed with block motif; the house rests on a dark grey painted plinth, likewise executed in block motif. The facades are enclosed by a cornice (incorporating gutter) finished with a dentil course. Centrally at the front the 3-bay-wide flight of steps of 4 treads (in sandstone) covered by the aforementioned portico with four wooden whitewashed faux-marble wooden columns.
First floor: centrally an Empire four-pane entrance door with two-pane fanlight with moulded surround in sandstone with keystone. On either side of the entrance three six-pane Empire windows with two-pane fanlights (two windows in side wing, one window on either side of entrance door); on the upper storey 7 six-pane lights.
Right facade: on the left side a rectangular extension from circa 1900 containing scullery. To the right of this 3 four-pane Empire windows. Directly above on the upper storey 3 six-pane Empire windows. On the left side on the upper storey likewise a six-pane Empire window.
The rear facade shows a projecting three-bay-wide middle section under pediment crowning (six-pane star window) with on the first floor centrally the Empire six-pane terrace door preceded by a sandstone flight of steps of 4 treads with two-pane fanlight surrounded by moulded sandstone surround with keystone. On either side two four-pane Empire windows (one window bay in the somewhat recessed side facades). On the upper storey 5 six-pane Empire windows.
Left facade: on the first floor 4 four-pane and on the upper storey 4 six-pane Empire windows.
The windows are equipped with exterior shutters all around.
Interior: the house was completely restored internally in the 1980s and 1990s. Centrally at the front the monumental rectangular hall situated across the width of the house with richly worked stucco ceiling with putti and garlands, marble floor and walls with Corinthian pilaster articulation in stucco. On the left side, centrally positioned with respect to the left facade, the rectangular staircase with oak Louis XVI flight of stairs with balustrade with balusters connected by chain sockets. The handrail of the banister terminates in a carved eagle's head. The room located behind the hall and the dining room situated to the right of it likewise display ceilings with rich stucwork and panelled wainscoting with moulded work in Louis XVI style.
The house is connected at the front on either side by a straight likewise whitewashed wall to the two outbuildings. Centrally in this wall, which is finished by a cornice, a semicircular passage with wooden gate under sandstone keystone.
Valuation

- the age;
- the ensemble values of the house with both outbuildings;
- the ensemble values which the house represents in the historic park layout;
- the integrity of both exterior and interior.
