OBELISK. Hardstenen obelisk op afgeplat pyramidevormige voeting van rivierkeien, gelegen iets ten oosten van het midden van de parkaanleg aan de zuidzijde van het complex. De obelisk is gesitueerd binnen een vierkant veld dat wordt omgeven door een ijzeren spijlenhek op lage bakstenen keermuren met ezelsrug. Voor (oost-)zijde obelisk: een smeedijzeren medaillon met allegorische afbeelding met slang, spade, houweel, bloem en twee omvallende bomen. Eronder de volgende inscriptie: 'In den jaren 1838 zijn de bosschen de Wassenaers en Balverens-kamp in ontginning gebracht door Otto Baron van Wassenaer, heer van beide Catwijcken en 't Zant enz. enz. en is deze steen tot zijn dierbaar en hooggeacht aandenken door zijne vijf en dankbaren zonen opgericht anno 1859'. Achter(west-)zijde obelisk: een smeedijzeren medaillon met de stichtingsdatum: 1859. Eronder de volgende inscriptie: 'De ontginning dezer bosschen is onder het goede opzigt verrigt van Gerrit van Hoogstraten die van af 1820 op Hoekelum als werkbaas zijne trouwe diensten bewijst'. Het medaillon aan de voorzijde is gesigneerd door: Nicola & CO.

OBELISK. Hardstone obelisk on flattened pyramid-shaped foundation of river pebbles, located slightly to the east of the centre of the park layout on the south side of the complex. The obelisk is situated within a square field surrounded by an iron railing on low brick retaining walls with saddle-backed coping. Front (east) side of obelisk: a wrought-iron medallion with allegorical representation with snake, spade, hoe, flower and two falling trees. Below the following inscription: 'In the years 1838 the forests the Wassenaers and Balverens-kamp were cleared by Otto Baron van Wassenaer, lord of both Catwijcken and 't Zant etc. etc. and this stone was erected to his dear and highly esteemed memory by his five grateful sons in the year 1859'. Back (west) side of obelisk: a wrought-iron medallion with the founding date: 1859. Below the following inscription: 'The clearance of these forests was carried out under the good supervision of Gerrit van Hoogstraten who from 1820 at Hoekelum as foreman rendered his loyal services'. The medallion on the front side is signed by: Nicola & CO.
