Omschrijving onderdeel 6: FONTEIN.
Inleiding
Voor de westvleugel gelegen GEDENKTEKEN, in de vorm van een FONTEIN met waterbak en omringende aanleg, gebouwd in 1947 in een expressieve stijl met barokke invloeden. Aangeduid onder nummer 6 op bijbehorende kaart. De fontein werd bij gelegenheid van het 25-jarig bestaan van de vestiging te Ede als een cadeau van de Edese bevolking (o.a. de Christelijke Middenstandsvereeniging, Edesche Commerciëlen Club, Vereeniging Voor Vreemdelingenverkeer) aan de directie aangeboden als een erkenning van het grote belang van de fabriek voor de ontwikkeling van de gemeente.
Omschrijving
Voor de situering van de fontein is een locatie gekozen enkele meters vóór en precies op de middenas van de reeds in 1937 geplaatste herinneringsbank. Rechthoekige, betonnen waterbak waarin vier spuwers. Randen op maaiveldniveau afgezet met groen glazuurde keramische vormstenen. Daaromheen lijsten van respectievelijk klinkers en grindtegels. Aan de voor- en achterzijde van de fontein zijn twee rechte paden aangelegd in gelijke materialen. Zij vormen verbindende elementen met de achtergelegen herinneringsbank en de naar het poortgebouw leidende entreeweg. Midden in de waterbak de symmetrisch ontworpen hoofdfontein op ovaal grondplan, die, bij gevulde waterbak, 1.98 meter boven waterniveau oprijst. Sokkel in fel roodbruin geglazuurde baksteen, op de kopse kanten ingevuld met afwisselend een rij koppen en strekken, en bovenlangs afgedekt met een aantal groen geglazuurde keramische vormstenen. Centraal in de sokkel aan de voorzijde een plaquette met in hoog-reliëf de tekst: "AANGEBODEN DOOR DE / BURGERIJ VAN EDE / AAN DE / A.K.U. / BIJ HAAR / ZILVEREN JUBILEUM / JANUARI 1947". Bovenstuk bestaande uit een slank pijlertje in baksteen als voornoemd, aan weerszijden bekleed met sierlijk gestileerde vissenkoppen in groen geglazuurd keramiek en bekroond met een gestileerde vaas in dito materiaal waarin een spuwer.
Waardering
Het GEDENKTEKEN, in de vorm van een FONTEIN met waterbak en omringende aanleg, is van algemeen belang:
- het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als illustratie van de vooraanstaande en geaccepteerde plaats die de kunstzijdefabriek zich in 1947 in sociaal-economisch opzicht heeft verworven. Als zodanig getuigt de bank van het belang van de vestiging voor de sociale, economische, culturele en ruimtelijke ontwikkelingen van Ede en omgeving. Daarnaast is het object in typologisch opzicht van belang als bijzondere vorm van gedenkteken;
- het object heeft kunsthistorische waarde als karakteristiek exempel van een product uit de keramische industrie van de jaren dertig en veertig, waarin steeds meer nieuwe en kleurige glazuren ontwikkeld werden, en vanwege de esthetische kwaliteiten van de toegepaste ornamentiek;
- het object heeft stedenbouwkundige en ensemblewaarde vanwege de logische situering op een voor bezoekers en voorbijgangers goed zichtbare locatie nabij het poortgebouw en de spoorlijn Arnhem-Utrecht.

Introduction
For the west wing located MONUMENT, in the form of a FOUNTAIN with water basin and surrounding layout, built in 1947 in an expressive style with baroque influences. Designated under number 6 on accompanying map. The fountain was presented on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment in Ede as a gift from the Ede population (including the Christian Middle-class Association, Edesche Commerciëlen Club, Association for Foreign Tourism) to the management as recognition of the great importance of the factory for the development of the municipality.
Description
For the location of the fountain, a site was chosen a few metres in front of and precisely on the central axis of the memorial bench already placed in 1937. Rectangular, concrete water basin with four spouts. Edges at ground level marked off with green glazed ceramic shaped stones. Around it borders of respectively clinkers and gravel tiles. On the front and rear sides of the fountain two straight paths have been laid out in the same materials. They form connecting elements with the memorial bench behind it and the entrance road leading to the gate building. In the middle of the water basin the symmetrically designed main fountain on an oval ground plan, which, when the water basin is filled, rises 1.98 metres above water level. Plinth in brightly reddish-brown glazed brick, on the sides filled with alternately a row of headers and stretchers, and covered along the top with a number of green glazed ceramic shaped stones. Central in the plinth on the front side a plaque with in high relief the text: "PRESENTED BY THE / CITIZENS OF EDE / TO THE / A.K.U. / ON HER / SILVER JUBILEE / JANUARY 1947". Upper section consisting of a slender pilaster in brick as aforesaid, lined on both sides with elegantly stylised fish heads in green glazed ceramics and crowned with a stylised vase in the same material with a spout.
Valuation
The MONUMENT, in the form of a FOUNTAIN with water basin and surrounding layout, is of general importance:
- the object has cultural-historical value as an illustration of the prominent and accepted position which the rayon factory had acquired in 1947 in socio-economic terms. As such, the bench bears witness to the importance of the establishment for the social, economic, cultural and spatial development of Ede and surroundings. Moreover, the object is of typological importance as a distinctive form of monument;
- the object has art-historical value as a characteristic example of a product from the ceramic industry of the thirties and forties, in which increasingly new and colourful glazes were developed, and because of the aesthetic qualities of the applied ornamentation;
- the object has urban planning and ensemble value because of its logical location on a site well visible to visitors and passers-by near the gate building and the railway line Arnhem-Utrecht.
