Het GRAFMONUMENT van J.B. van Heutsz (1851-1924), van 1904-1909 gouverneur-generaal van Nederlands-Indië bestaande uit een grafkelder en een natuurstenen bovenbouw met geïntegreerde sculpturen. Het geheel is uitgevoerd naar het bekroonde ontwerp 'Atjeh' van de Haagse beeldhouwer B.M.A. Ingen Housz (1881-1947) en de architect D. Roosenburg (1887-1962). De onderbouw bevat granieten blokken in rustiekwerk en een verdiept geplaatste ijzeren toegangsdeur, toegankelijk via hardstenen traptreden. De in gebouchardeerd graniet uitgevoerde bovenbouw bevat een rusticasokkel en taps toelopende blokken; bij de ingang twee gestileerde sculpturen van krijgers als dodenwachters en op de kopse wand onder het fronton de naam Van Heutsz in eigentijdse metalen letters; aan de achterzijde twee hoofdreliëfs te weerszijden van een gedenksteen met inscriptie onder fronton.

Description
The GRAVE MONUMENT of J.B. van Heutsz (1851-1924), governor-general of the Dutch East Indies from 1904-1909, consisting of a grave chamber and a natural stone superstructure with integrated sculptures. The whole is executed according to the award-winning design 'Atjeh' by The Hague sculptor B.M.A. Ingen Housz (1881-1947) and architect D. Roosenburg (1887-1962). The substructure contains granite blocks in rusticated work and a recessed placed iron access door, accessible via hardstone steps. The superstructure, executed in chiselled granite, contains a rustic plinth and tapering blocks; at the entrance two stylised sculptures of warriors as guardians of the dead and on the gable wall beneath the pediment the name Van Heutsz in contemporary metal letters; on the rear side two high reliefs on either side of a memorial stone with inscription beneath the pediment.
Valuation
Grave monument for General Van Heutsz from 1927, belonging to the Nieuwe Ooster cemetery and as such of general importance because of its cultural and funerary-historical value.
