De SCHOORSTEEN van het voormalige St. Elisabeth-gesticht heeft een vierkant basement, hetgeen enkele keren verjongend op ongeveer vier meter hoogte met gebruik van natuursteen overgaat in een achtkantige vorm. Op de top van deze achtkant kraagt de schoorsteen iets uit waarbij een aantal bakstenen sierranden de eigenlijke voet en eveneens uit bakstenen opgebouwde voet afsluit. De schacht, het gedeelte tussen de voet en de kop, gaat als gebruikelijk taps toelopend omhoog. Er zijn ter versteviging diverse ijzeren trekbanden aangebracht. De kop begint met twee sierranden, waarna een aantal (18 tot 20) gemetselde cannelures gemaakt zijn. Deze worden onderbroken door een later aangebrachte trekband. Dichter onder de kop worden de cannelures verder onderverdeeld en rijkelijk voorzien van siermetselwerk, waarbij de uitkraging weer toeneemt. De bovenste rand van siermetselwerk is op dezelfde wijze gemaakt als de rand in de voet. De schoorsteen is naar schatting 35 meter hoog en is geheel gemaakt van baksteen/radiaalsteen. Gezien de gebruikte steensoort en de wijze van metselen hebben wij vrijwel zeker te maken met een Duitse steen of met een Duitse schoorsteenbouwer.

Schoorsteen van algemeen belang wegens architectuur-historische en typologische waarde alsook wegens ensemblewaarde als historisch- functioneel- en beeldbepalend onderdeel van het complex St. Elisabeth-gesticht.

Description
The CHIMNEY of the former St. Elisabeth Institution has a square basement, which several times narrowing at approximately four metres height transitions with the use of natural stone into an octagonal form. At the top of this octagon the chimney projects slightly whereby a number of brick decorative bands finish the actual base and likewise brick-built base. The shaft, the section between the base and the top, rises tapering as is usual. Various iron tie-bands have been fitted for reinforcement. The head begins with two decorative bands, after which a number (18 to 20) of brick flutings have been made. These are interrupted by a later-applied tie-band. Closer below the head the flutings are further subdivided and richly provided with decorative brickwork, whereby the projection increases again. The upper edge of decorative brickwork is made in the same manner as the edge in the base. The chimney is estimated to be 35 metres high and is entirely built of brick/radial brick. Given the type of stone used and the manner of brickwork we are almost certainly dealing with German brick or with a German chimney builder.
