Recht tegenover de voorgevel van het landhuis ligt een kunstmatige GROT als tuinfolly, opgetrokken uit hergebruikte tufsteen, XIXB.
Omschrijving
De grot is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond met aan een uiteinde een halfcirkelvormige afsluiting. Het binnenwerk bestaat uit een tongewelf van fijn gemetselde baksteen, aan een zijde uitlopend in een absis waarin een beeldnis uitgespaard is. De voorzijde van de grot met een boogvormige ingangsopening bestaat uit een schermwand van onregelmatig behakte tufsteenblokken, waarin hier en daar profielen zichtbaar zijn, wat wijst op hergebruik. Volgens de overlevering zou de tufsteen afkomstig zijn van de Bossche Sint-Jan. De buitenzijde van de grot is aangeaard.
Waardering
De kunstmatige GROT uit XIXB is van algemeen belang. Ze is een zeldzaam voorbeeld van een tuinfolly in de vorm van een grot en als zodanig van belang voor de tuingeschiedenis. Directly opposite the front facade of the manor house lies an artificial GROTTO as a garden folly, built from reused tufa stone, second half of the 19th century.
Description
The grotto is built on a rectangular plan with at one end a semicircular closure. The interior consists of a barrel vault of finely laid brick, on one side extending into an apse in which a sculpted figure is recessed. The front of the grotto with an arched entrance opening consists of a screen wall of irregularly dressed tufa stone blocks, in which profiles are visible here and there, indicating reuse. According to tradition, the tufa stone would have come from the Sint-Jan in 's-Hertogenbosch. The exterior of the grotto is earthed over.
Valuation
The artificial GROTTO from the second half of the 19th century is of general importance. It is a rare example of a garden folly in the form of a grotto and as such is of significance for garden history. The grotto has building-historical value due to the reuse of building material.
