SHORT-GABLE FARMHOUSE from the 18th century and subsequently modified, erected in the Craftsman-traditional manner. The property, together with a country house, cart shed, a bakehouse and a grotto as a garden folly, forms part of the wooded estate Sterrebos and is situated in isolation on a sand road at the edge of 's-Hertogenbosch. Replacement of windows, doors and frames in c. 1950. In front of the house a large linden tree.

Description

One-storey short-gable farmhouse of the three-aisle hall-house type with anchor-beam framework under thatched gabled roof with half-hipped roof and end-board, tile-strips of raked Dutch tiles. Transverse section. At the height of the division between the residential and business section a bricked chimney on the ridge, which is equipped with thatch-eaves brackets. The front facade, constructed of hand-shaped brick of the format 18-22 x 10.5 x 4-4.5 cm, is asymmetrically arranged. At the far left a four-light window with casement windows and foldable fanlight and double shutters with mirror-clasp. Left of centre a front door with triangular flap and four-part fanlight. On the right two identical windows as on the left. On attic level two small four-light windows with casement windows of different sizes. Above windows and doors lintels. Wattle-weave beneath the roof slope. Below the half-hipped roof a blocked ventilation strip and a strut. Rod anchors. The right side facade has on the corner with the front facade a standing tooth, after which it transitions to orange-yellow Ijssel brick. At the height of the residential section a four-light casement window. At the height of the stable the side wall was completely renewed c. 1950 in machine-made brick with two pilasters, three stable doors with glass in the upper part and five six-part arched iron stable windows with brick drip thresholds. The rear facade and adjacent side facades are constructed of old hand-shaped brick in running bond; the rear facade is, except for two arched iron stable windows, entirely blind. The left side facade has at the far left a stable door with six-light upper section, recessed divided doors, three arched six-light iron stable windows and a stable door with glass.

Internally the original layout is largely preserved. Living kitchen with profiled fireplace beam. In c. 1950 renewed beam ceilings. Cellar with 7 stone steps and beam ceiling. In the entire property there are five complete oak anchor-beam framework pairs with curved corbels. On the anchor beam stand triangular roof trusses with collar tie. The timbers have no tie beams. The transverse section is still entirely intact, at the location of the renewed cattle shed a closed beam ceiling.
