Omschrijving complexonderdeel 3
Aan de oostzijde van de sluis gelegen bouwblok met ARBEIDERSWONINGEN is tussen 1882 en 1884 ontworpen door J. Sizoo en bestaat uit zeven arbeiderswoningen in neo-renaissancestijl. De nummers 1 en 5 werden later gebouwd; nummer 7 dateert van 1929. Oorspronkelijk was het middelste huis, nummer 4, uitgevoerd met een trapgevel.
Iedere woning bestaat uit één bouwlaag onder een doorlopend zadeldak met de nok evenwijdig aan de weg, gedekt met blauwe bouletpannen en voorzien van een geprofileerde gootlijst. Woning nummer 4 springt uit ten opzichte van de andere woningen en heeft bovendien een risalerende middenpartij onder een zadeldak haaks op het hoofddak. Ook woning nummer 7 springt iets uit en heeft voorts een ander metselverband (Vlaams verband) dan de andere woningen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen in kruisverband met geknipte voegen. Het metselwerk wordt versierd met gele baksteenmotieven in neorenaissancestijl, zoals horizontale banden, ontlastingsbogen met sluitsteenmotieven, boogveldvullingen met decoratief metselwerk en een sierlijst onder de dakgoot. Alle woningen hebben in de voorgevel een deur met bovenlicht en een kleine stoep. De woningen 1, 5, 6, en 7 hebben links of rechts van de deur twee vensters. Bij de woningen nummer 3 en 4 is er nog een derde venster. Woning nummer 4 is breder en heeft een tuitgevel. Op de begane grond is een samengesteld venster aangebracht en op de verdieping twee smalle vensters. Links van het middenrisaliet bevinden zich twee vensters en rechts een deur en een venster. Hierboven is op het dak een kleine dakkapel geplaatst. De linkerzijgevel bevat twee smalle vensters met een luik op de begane grond en twee stolpvensters met een bovenlicht op de verdieping. De rechterzijgevel heeft twee vensters op de verdieping zoals in de linkerzijgevel en bevat een smal venster op de begane grond. De achtergevel bevat per woning twee of drie vensters en een deur met een bovenlicht. Bij een drietal woningen is aan de achterzijde een bijkeuken uitgebouwd. Deze vallen buiten de bescherming.

Description of complex component 3
On the east side of the lock is a building block with WORKERS' DWELLINGS designed between 1882 and 1884 by J. Sizoo and consisting of seven workers' dwellings in neo-Renaissance style. Numbers 1 and 5 were built later; number 7 dates from 1929. Originally the middle house, number 4, was executed with a stepped gable.
Each dwelling consists of one storey beneath a continuous gabled roof with the ridge parallel to the road, covered with blue barrel tiles and fitted with a profiled gutter moulding. Dwelling number 4 projects in relation to the other dwellings and furthermore has a projecting centre section beneath a gabled roof perpendicular to the main roof. Dwelling number 7 also projects slightly and furthermore has a different bond pattern (Flemish bond) than the other dwellings. The facades are built of brick in cross-bond with struck joints. The brickwork is ornamented with yellow brick motifs in neo-Renaissance style, such as horizontal bands, relieving arches with voussoir motifs, arch spandrel fillings with decorative brickwork and an ornamental moulding beneath the roof gutter. All dwellings have in the front facade a door with fanlight and a small stoop. Dwellings 1, 5, 6, and 7 have two windows to the left or right of the door. At dwellings number 3 and 4 there is a third window. Dwelling number 4 is wider and has a spout gable. On the ground floor a composite window has been placed and on the first floor two narrow windows. To the left of the centre projection are two windows and to the right a door and a window. Above this on the roof a small roof dormer has been placed. The left side facade contains two narrow windows with a shutter on the ground floor and two hopper windows with a fanlight on the first floor. The right side facade has two windows on the first floor as in the left side facade and contains a narrow window on the ground floor. The rear facade contains per dwelling two or three windows and a door with a fanlight. At three dwellings a scullery has been added to the rear. These fall outside the protection.
Valuation of complex component 3
Of general importance on account of its architectural-historical value as an example of a building block belonging to the other buildings of the Merwedekanaal in its design, consisting of seven workers' dwellings in neo-Renaissance style. Furthermore of significant ensemble value in connection with the Koninginnensluis situated in front of the houses and the lockkeeper's dwelling (Koninginnenlaan 28), as well as on account of the striking situation on the Merwedekanaal.
