Inleiding

Omschrijving

Introduction

SHORT-GABLED FARMHOUSE, erected in artisanal-traditional building style and dating from the 17th century. Major renovation 1843. The farmhouse is positioned with its ridge parallel to the road lined with Canadian poplars with a ditch, on a small plot with a horse chestnut and two walnut trees. Behind the house a collapsed single-legged haymow under thatched roof. In front of the house a masonry well. The farmhouse has been preserved in an exceptionally intact state both internally and externally in its original function.

Description

Three-aisled hall house with anchor-beam framework under thatched gabled roof with half-hipped ends and tiles of red and smoored Dutch tiles. The short-gabled farmhouse is of the transverse-division type. The front gable is built from orange cloister bricks in wild bond with headers and three-leaf courses (header dimensions 13 x 6.5 cm). Above the windows the masonry transitions into purple-brown hand-formed brick with raked joints. The front door with simply profiled fanlight and two-part fanlight is positioned to the right of the centre axis. To the right of it a high-placed upper-room window with six-pane window with shutter. To the left of the front door two windows with 20-pane sash windows, double shutters and draw bolt. At attic level in the centre axis a small square window with two-part hinged window. Above and below the windows and above the door relieving arches. At the far left building traces are visible indicating that the left roof slope has been raised and the left side gable heightened. The left side gable after the raising of the roof slope has been re-erected in reused brick. At the level of the residential section two two-part windows with brick drip moulds (c. 1950), at the level of the business section a stable door, a small WC extension and arched cast-iron stable windows. The right side gable is raised above a plastered plinth in purple-brown brick (1843) and presents a regular appearance. The gable displays from left to right a stable door, a lunette-shaped iron stable window with spire tracery, a six-part arched iron stable window, a recessed double double-leaf door (renewed 1952) and a small small window with grille. The rear gable is blind. Windows and frames are painted white, doors and shutters mid-green.

Internally the original layout has largely been preserved. In the living kitchen a fireplace with profiled fireplace beam. Beam ceilings, panel doors with original hinges and fastenings. In the house four oak anchor-beam frameworks, one post in the residential section modified. On the anchor beam round-timber triangular roof trusses with two collar-ties stacked above each other. Vaulted cellar with two masonry brine tubs. In the stable a hardstone scrubbing sink.

Valuation

The short-gabled farmhouse of 17th-1843 is of general importance. The house has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a socio-economic development, as an example of a continuously rejuvenated short-gabled farmhouse in the Meijerij. The property has architectural-historical value because of the internally and externally very well preserved main structure and traditional material use as well as because of components of the intact interior. The property has building-historical significance because of the legibility of the building traces. The property is character-defining in the streetscape and characteristic of the open agrarian building pattern around Gemonde.
