Inleiding
In de berm van Rijksweg-Zuid, tussen vangrail en Zuid-Willemsvaart, staat ter hoogte van huisnummer 23 de B-KAZEMAT K60. De kazemat maakt deel uit van een snoer kazematten langs de Zuid-Willemsvaart dat tot doel had eventuele overschrijding van dit kanaal door de vijand te voorkomen.
Beschrijving
De locatie zo dicht bij de frontlinie is opmerkelijk te noemen. Uit financiële overwegingen echter werd soms op plaatsen waar men een G-kazemat wilde bouwen een B-kazemat gebouwd, welke aanmerkelijk goedkoper was. Het nadeel was dat B-kazematten uiteraard minder geschikt zijn om direct aan een front geplaatst te worden. Maar B-kazematten hadden in iedergeval als voordeel boven de S-kazematten -die wèl geschikt zijn om aan een frontpositie geplaatst te worden- dat ze met zwaarder geschut uitgerust konden worden. De kazemat is gaaf en er zijn geen zichtbare sporen van gevechtshandelingen. Alle openingen zijn dichtgemaakt.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het object is architectuur- en bouwhistorisch van belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het object is ook van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van diverse verdedigingsobjecten- en structuren inzake de nationale landsverdediging. Het object heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel: enerzijds als onderdeel van de landsverdediging (het geheel aan stellingen aan de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog), en anderzijds als belangrijk (structurerend) onderdeel van het Peelgebied dat als militair landschap cultuurhistorisch van belang is. De kazemat heeft een bijzondere historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid van het gebied. Deze verweving geeft het complex ook een grote belevingswaarde.
