Omschrijving
Description
Introduction
Farmhouse, originally a hall house with central longitudinal section, later extended to a cruck house, built in artisanal-traditional construction style and dating from the first half of the 19th century to mid-19th century. Located on a modest plot with grass, gravel, hawthorn hedges and a weeping willow with the ridge parallel to and at short distance from the Maasdijk.
Description
CRUCK FARMHOUSE WITH CENTRAL LONGITUDINAL SECTION under a composite thatched roof with ridge thatch, strips of damped curved roof tiles and half-hipped roof at the rear. At the height of the division between the residential and business sections a brick chimney with an iron tent-shaped capping. The cruck house was created by a left-hand extension (circa mid-19th century) of the residential part of an original short-gable hall house of the hall house type. Built above a plastered, grey-painted plinth in reddish-brown handmade brick in random bond with headers and three-row stretchers. The rear gable and the long side gable facing the dike are entirely plastered. The front gable has wattle and daub on the right, traces of the later extension to a cruck house on the left. The renewed front door with fanlight is positioned to the right of the central axis. Hardstone step, stoep of yellow four-part stones, circa 1890. To the right of this a cellar window above which a renewed nine-pane window according to the original sash window arrangement. In the original central axis of the house an equally renewed large window with a 20-pane sash window and double shutters. Below it the cellar hatch. At attic level a small square window with cross-railed frame. Drip mouldings above and below the wall openings. In the left extension of the front gable a higher-placed window with a 20-pane sash window and double shutters, below with a drip moulding, above covered with a sloped sill. The more regular brickwork in cross bond here has tuck joints. The left gable of the extension is a truncated spout gable with wattle and daub and is built in cross bond from reddish-brown handmade brick. On the far right on the ground floor a relatively high-placed narrow ten-pane sash window with shutter, covered with a sloped sill. Weep lintels. At attic level two symmetrically placed, now blocked small window openings, covered with slightly arched sills. Between them a window with casements installed around 1930 under a three-part fanlight. Tie rods. The left gable of the business section is entirely plastered and renewed. In it four new windows with cross-railed frames and a renewed door. Furthermore a plastered extension from circa 1990 under a gabled roof with damped curved roof tiles and wind vane. This replaces an earlier horse stable. Lunette-shaped iron stable window. Door at rear gable end. Renewed rear gable with two new oak posts between which the double split door, on the left with a glass pane. Hayloft with potsherd roofing, originally vertically grooved and lapped. On the far left a square window with cross rails. The plastered right gable has at the location of the business section two lunette-shaped iron stable windows and a six-pane iron stable window.
Internally the original layout has been largely preserved. The old cellar, to the right next to the front door, has been filled in. In the extension from the third quarter of the nineteenth century a cellar with three stone steps, red tiles, barrel vault and cellar window below the extension has been made. In the residential section a half oak tie-beam; the other side of the tie-beam is bedded in the masonry. In the extension itself, which is one step higher than the rest of the residential house, there is a sleeping alcove with panel doors. The old hearth has been rebricked. The passage to the stable is paved with Namur stone. The barn still has an earth floor and two partly oak tie-beam trusses with corbels and wind braces. Carved carpenters' marks. Oak joists. On the tie-beams renewed in softwood trapezium-shaped braced rafters on which round timber common rafters rest. The old stable layout is still present.
Valuation
The CRUCK FARMHOUSE WITH CENTRAL LONGITUDINAL SECTION from the first half of the 19th century to mid-19th century is of general interest. The house has cultural-historical value as a special expression of socio-economic development, as an example of the development of a hall house to a cruck house, which is characteristic of the Rivers region. The property has architectural-historical value because of the internally and externally well-preserved main structure and the traditional use of materials as well as because of interior components. The property is part of the old dike settlement and is character-defining for the streetscape.
