Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
TRANSFORMER HOUSE of the B3R type built in 1921, located on the north side of the Hogestraat, within the protected townscape of Heerewaarden. The transformer is set back some distance from the building line, on a narrow plot between the church and the town hall. The transformer house is built in a style derived from the New Hague School. The design dates from around 1920 and is presumed to be by the architect G. VERSTEEG (1872-1938), who until 1914 was deputy director of the Public Works Department of the municipality of Arnhem and thereafter, from 1914 to 1921 was associated with the architect Jan Gratama. The design was applied several times in the province, both in this form and in variants thereof.
Description
The rectangular TRANSFORMER HOUSE is constructed of brown-red brick laid in stretcher bond with details in yellow facing brick and black tarred brick. The building rests on a recessed black plinth and is covered with a steeply projecting hipped roof with wooden eaves moulding, on a recessed layer of yellow facing brick. The roof pitches are covered with bitumen. On both the left and right, a section of the facade is built out both forward and to the side and framed by black tarred brick and provided at the top with a recessed yellow decorative band.
The FRONT FACADE contains in the centre an entrance, formed by a steel door and provided with a black frame. Above this are six glass building bricks as a fanlight. The entrance has a step of yellow facing brick. The steel hatch next to the door gives access to an oil switch.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE is blank. The REAR FACADE is provided in the same location as the front facade with a row of glass building bricks. The entrance with a wooden door in the RIGHT SIDE FACADE is without frame. This entrance also has a step of yellow facing brick.

The object stands out for its aesthetic qualities, such as the built-out facade sections and the multi-coloured use of materials. There is an ensemble effect as part of the development along the Hogestraat, where the object is wedged between the church and the town hall.
- Of cultural-historical value because of the purpose of the house and its appearance, which are connected to a historical development and recall the electrification of the Netherlands.
