Inleiding
Ten oosten van het hoofdgebouw van Oud Amelisweerd ligt aan de Kromme Rijn het markante boerderij-ensemble 'De Zonnewijzer', bestaande uit een boerderij, zomerhuis, rietgedekte kapberg en schuur.
Omschrijving
Links van de boerderij een ZOMERHUIS van iets latere datum dan de boerderij, doch van vòòr 1830 (top. kaart). Het rood bakstenen pand op rechthoekige grondslag wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met afgewolfde uiteinden. Ter hoogte van het woongedeelte aan de voorzijde is het dak voorzien van rode Hollandse pannen, daarachter gesmoorde pannen. De gevelindeling van het woongedeelte is na een ingrijpende verbouwing in 1966 gewijzigd. Oorspronkelijk was de ingang links met rechts twee meerruits schuifvensters, thans bevindt de ingang zich rechts met links drie meerruits schuifvensters en rechts één. Ter hoogte van de kap werden twee dubbele draaivensters geplaatst. Aan de linkerzijde is de gevel iets hoger opgetrokken en voorzien van twee meerruits vensters en een toegangsdeur, het dak maakt op deze plaats een flauwe knik. Aan de rechterzijde is de gevel ter hoogte van het woongedeelte dichtgemetseld. Het bedrijfsgedeelte is nagenoeg oorspronkelijk met links en rechts stalramen en deuren en aan de achterzijde een centrale dubbele inrijdeur geflankeerd door hooggeplaatste stalvensters, uiterst links en rechts een eenvoudige toegangsdeur en in de top een dubbel hooiluik. Vensters en deuren zijn alle getoogd aan de bovenzijde.

Het ZOMERHUIS, deeluitmakend van een ensemble van boerderij, zomerhuis, rietgedekte kapberg en schuur behorende tot de buitenplaats Oud Amelisweerd is van algemeen belang:

To the left of the farmhouse a SUMMER HOUSE of somewhat later date than the farmhouse, but before 1830 (topographical map). The red brick building on rectangular plan is covered by a gabled roof with half-hipped ends. At the level of the residential section on the front elevation, the roof is furnished with red Dutch tiles, behind which concealed tiles. The facade layout of the residential section was altered following extensive renovation in 1966. Originally the entrance was on the left with two multi-pane sash windows to the right; now the entrance is on the right with three multi-pane sash windows to the left and one to the right. At the level of the roof structure two double casement windows were installed. On the left side the facade rises slightly higher and is furnished with two multi-pane windows and an entrance door; the roof makes a shallow break at this point. On the right side the facade at the level of the residential section is bricked up. The functional section is nearly original with stable windows and doors to the left and right and a central double carriage entrance flanked by high-placed stable windows on the rear, a simple entrance door at the far left and right and a double hay door in the gable.
