Inleiding
Ten oosten van het hoofdgebouw van Oud Amelisweerd ligt aan de Kromme Rijn het markante boerderij-ensemble 'De Zonnewijzer', bestaande uit een boerderij, zomerhuis, rietgedekte kapberg en schuur.
Omschrijving
De DWARSHUISBOERDERIJ onder een rieten kap met afgewolfde uiteinden dateert uit het laatste kwart van de 18de eeuw. Het voorhuis is in de 20ste eeuw een aantal malen verbouwd, waarbij de gevelindeling drastisch gewijzigd werd. Thans bevinden zich in de voorgevel centraal twee grote empirevensters met luiken; links van deze vensters de opkamer met een hoger geplaatst, kleiner empirevenster en een keldervenster, beide met luiken; uiterst rechts een dubbele openslaande deur. In de rechter zijgevel centraal een dubbele openslaande deur met rechts een venster; ter hoogte van de kap eenzelfde deur met bovenlicht. Tegen de linker zijgevel werd in 1967 een erker gebouwd; ter hoogte van de kap een meerruits venster met halve luiken. Het bedrijfsgedeelte achter het voorhuis heeft sinds de bouwtijd geen ingrijpende veranderingen ondergaan. Links en rechts stalvensters en een enkele toegangsdeur. In de achtergevel centraal een dubbele inrijdeur geflankeerd door hoge stalramen en uiterst links en rechts een enkele toegangsdeur. In de top een dubbel hijsluik geflankeerd door ronde stalvensters. Uiterst rechts halverwege de gevel nog een stalvenster. Vensters en deuren zijn alle getoogd aan de bovenzijde.

The CROSS HOUSE FARMHOUSE under a thatched roof with hipped ends dates from the last quarter of the 18th century. The front section has been renovated several times in the 20th century, whereby the gable layout was drastically altered. Currently in the front gable are centrally two large empire-style windows with shutters; to the left of these windows the storage room with a higher-placed, smaller empire-style window and a basement window, both with shutters; far right a double French door. In the right side gable centrally a double French door with to the right a window; at the height of the roof the same door with fanlight. Against the left side gable an oriel window was built in 1967; at the height of the roof a multi-paned window with half shutters. The business section behind the front section has undergone no major changes since construction. Left and right stable windows and a single entrance door. In the back gable centrally a double carriage entrance flanked by tall stable windows and far left and right a single entrance door. In the gable top a double hoist opening flanked by round stable windows. Far right halfway up the gable yet another stable window. Windows and doors are all arched at the top.
