Inleiding
De voormalige DIENSTWONING is ontworpen door J. F. Metzelaar voor de directeur van de strafgevangenis. De woning ligt rechts van het poortgebouw van de gevangenis. Voor de onderdirecteur werd een identieke gespiegelde woning gebouwd rechts naast de gevangenispoort, nu Nassausingel 27.
Omschrijving
Woning op een globaal T-vormige grondslag, opgetrokken in baksteen met imitatie-speklagen in gele steen. Boven vensters en deuren is gele steen in blokmotief verwerkt. Het pand telt twee bouwlagen en een kapverdieping onder samengesteld schilddak, gedekt met gesmoorde pannen.
De voorgevel heeft een asymmetrische opzet met rechts een naar voren gelegen deel, afgesloten met een topgevel. In deze partij twee grote, driedelige vensters met bovenlicht en in de top een rondboogvormig afgesloten venster. Het linkerdeel van de voorgevel ligt meer naar achteren en is voorzien van smalle vensters. In de oksel van het gebouw de entree, aangebracht in een (overigens op de bouwtekening niet voorzien) portiek. De andere gevels bevatten vensters in verschillende vormen. De topgevels zijn afgedekt met betonnen platen. Ook de consoles van de goten zijn van dat materiaal.
Waardering
De dienstwoning is van algemeen belang. The former OFFICIAL RESIDENCE was designed by J. F. Metzelaar for the director of the penal institution. The dwelling is situated to the right of the gatehouse of the prison. For the assistant director an identical mirrored dwelling was built to the right beside the prison gate, now Nassausingel 27.
Description
Dwelling on a broadly T-shaped ground plan, constructed in brick with imitation speckled courses in yellow stone. Above windows and doors yellow stone is worked in as a block pattern. The building comprises two storeys and an attic storey under a composite hipped roof, covered with plain tiles.
The front facade has an asymmetrical arrangement with on the right a projecting section, terminated with a gable. In this part two large, three-part windows with fanlight and at the top a round-arched terminated window. The left part of the front facade is set further back and is provided with narrow windows. In the angle of the building the entrance, installed in a (incidentally not provided for on the building plan) portico. The other facades contain windows in various forms. The gables are covered with concrete slabs. Also the consoles of the gutters are of that material.
