Inleiding.
THEEHUIS van villa "Mariënhof", naar ontwerp van architect J.W. Hanrath (Hilversum). De andere onderdelen van het complex zijn: villa (I) en de tuin (III). Het object is gebouwd in de tuin van de villa voor de fabrikantenfamilie Jos Janssen-Verhulst. Het theehuis staat voor in de tuin langs de Bredaseweg. Voor een Springertuin is het een opvallend element. Waarschijnlijk is het op speciaal verzoek van de opdrachtgever geplaatst, teneinde contact te hebben met het voorbijkomende langzame verkeer.
Omschrijving.
Het eenlaagse theehuis heeft een achthoekige plattegrond. Het is gedekt door een rieten schilddak. Aan de straatkant heeft het een vijfzijdige veranda met een houten balustrade. Het dakoverstek boven de veranda wordt gedragen door vier vierkante houten kolommen. De toegang bestaat uit twee houten schuifdeuren met glasroeden. Aan beide zijkanten een roedenvenster. Het opgaande werk bestaat uit een bakstenen basement met daarop een houtskelet, dat aan de buitenkant is voorzien van potdekselwerk. De veranda heeft een vloer van rode plavuizen.
Waardering.
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, met name de stichting van buitenplaatsen aan de uitvalswegen van de industriesteden. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege de verfijnde detaillering met een mengeling van Engels-Amerikaanse invloeden, aangepast aan het Nederlandse stijlgevoel, het is van bijzonder belang in het oeuvre van J.W. Hanrath en L.A. Springer. Het complex heeft ensemblewaarden wegens samenhang van de bebouwing met de inrichting van de landschappelijke tuin.
