Inleiding.
Gedeeltelijk ingemetseld in de zuidelijke transeptarm van de kerk aan de Baroniestraat staat een SCULPTUUR, in 1947 gebeeldhouwd door de uit Utrecht afkomstige Jo Uiterwaal. Het beeldhouwwerk vertoont elementen van de op de archasche en soms barokke vormentaal teruggrijpende kerkelijke beeldhouwkunst van rond de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Omschrijving.
De tufstenen sculptuur bestaat uit een klein rechthoekig (mogelijk secundair gebruikt) horizontaal tableau met daarboven een groot, nagenoeg vierkant tableau. Op het kleine tableau zijn vier ruiters te paard weergegeven, een tafereel ontleend aan de Apocalyps. Het grote tableau heeft een onderrand waarop een calvariegroep is weergegeven, met in het midden de gekruisigde en lijdende Christus, aan zijn linkerzijde Johannes met het olievat als attribuut en aan zijn rechterzijde Maria, beiden met nimbus.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het rooms-katholicisme. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege het representatieve karakter voor de rooms-katholieke kerkelijke beeldhouwkunst van rond de Tweede Wereldoorlog, de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en de plaats die het werk inneemt binnen het oeuvre van beeldhouwer Uiterwaal. Het tegen de kerk geplaatste object heeft tesamen met de kerk, pastorie, overige (graf-)sculpturen en het St. Ursulaklooster ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een historisch gegroeid religieus ensemble aan de Baroniestraat. Dit ensemble vormt een belangwekkend onderdeel van de Boxtelse stationswijk, die rond 1900 uitgroeide tot een afzonderlijke parochie. Het object is verder van belang wegens de gaafheid.

Partially built into the southern transept arm of the church on the Baroniestraat stands a SCULPTURE, carved in 1947 by Jo Uiterwaal from Utrecht. The sculpture displays elements of ecclesiastical sculpture drawing on archaic and sometimes baroque formal language from around the Second World War.
Description.
The tufa stone sculpture consists of a small rectangular (possibly secondarily used) horizontal tableau with above it a large, almost square tableau. On the small tableau four mounted riders on horseback are depicted, a scene taken from the Apocalypse. The large tableau has an undersurface on which a Calvary group is depicted, with in the centre the crucified and suffering Christ, at his left-hand side John with the oil vessel as attribute and at his right-hand side Mary, both with a halo.
Valuation.
The funerary monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of the development of Roman Catholicism. It has artistic-historical value owing to the representative character for Roman Catholic ecclesiastical sculpture from around the Second World War, the high-quality aesthetic qualities of the design and the place the work occupies within the oeuvre of sculptor Uiterwaal. The object placed against the church has, together with the church, parsonage, other (funerary) sculptures and the St. Ursula convent, ensemble values as part of a historically grown religious ensemble on the Baroniestraat. This ensemble forms a noteworthy part of the Boxtel station district, which developed around 1900 into a separate parish. The object is furthermore of importance owing to the integrity.
