Inleiding.
Op de begraafplaats staat tegen de muur van het noordtransept van de kerk een GRAFMONUMENT van de familie Van Susante. Deze familie speelde een vooraanstaande rol in de sigarenproducerende industrie in Boxtel. Het monument werd in 1944 gebeeldhouwd, mogelijk door de uit Utrecht afkomstige Jo Uiterwaal. Het beeldhouwwerk vertoont elementen van de op de archasche en soms barokke vormentaal teruggrijpende kerkelijke beeldhouwkunst van rond de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Omschrijving.
Het geheel uit tufsteen opgetrokken, symmetrische grafmonument is frontaal gericht en bestaat uit een rechthoekige voetplaat om een samengesteld tweedelig basement. Hierop zijn aan de voorzijde de namen van drie leden van de familie Van Susante ingebeiteld en verheft zich aan de achterzijde (tegen de kerkmuur) een als triptiek uitgewerkte sokkel. Boven het risalerende middendeel hiervan verheft zich een groot rechthoekig tableau. Op het middendeel van de sokkel staan drie westwaarts gerichte figuren met attributen, verwijzend naar de vrouwen aan het graf van Christus. In de tableaus aan weerszijden hiervan afbeeldingen met links een kruis in combinatie met een hart (symbolisch voor het geloof en de liefde voor God) en rechts een kruis in combinatie met een olielamp (symbolisch voor de waakzaamheid). Op het centrale, rechthoekige hoofdtableau een gevleugelde, zegenende engel met schriftrol in de linkerhand waarop de tekst 'WAT ZOEKT GIJ DEN LEVENDE / BIJ DE DODEN ? / LUC 24.5'. Links van hem staat een grote vaas. Het tableau wordt bekroond met sierkrulwerk op de bovenrand.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van de rooms-katholieke grafcultuur en van een sociale ontwikkeling. Verder als bijzonder voorbeeld en uitwerking van een graftype op grond van de gecombineerde voorstellingen. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege het representatieve karakter voor de rooms-katholieke kerkelijke beeldhouwkunst van rond de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp. Het op de begraafplaats gelegen object heeft tesamen met de kerk, pastorie, overige (graf-)sculpturen en het St. Ursulaklooster ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een historisch gegroeid religieus ensemble aan de Baroniestraat. Dit ensemble vormt een belangwekkend onderdeel van de Boxtelse stationswijk, die rond 1900 uitgroeide tot een afzonderlijke parochie. Het object is van belang wegens de gaafheid en de zeldzaamheid van de gecombineerde, in tufsteen uitgevoerde voorstelling.

On the cemetery stands against the wall of the north transept of the church a GRAVE MONUMENT of the Van Susante family. This family played a leading role in the cigar-producing industry in Boxtel. The monument was sculpted in 1944, possibly by Jo Uiterwaal from Utrecht. The sculptural work shows elements of ecclesiastical sculpture based on archaic and sometimes baroque formal language from around the Second World War.
Description.
The symmetrical grave monument, entirely constructed of tuff stone, is frontally oriented and consists of a rectangular base plate around a composite two-part basement. On the front the names of three members of the Van Susante family are inscribed and on the rear (against the church wall) a socle worked out as a triptych rises up. Above the projecting central section thereof rises a large rectangular tableau. On the central section of the socle stand three westward-facing figures with attributes, referring to the women at the grave of Christ. In the tableaus on either side thereof images with on the left a cross in combination with a heart (symbolically representing faith and love for God) and on the right a cross in combination with an oil lamp (symbolically representing vigilance). On the central, rectangular main tableau a winged, blessing angel with scroll in the left hand bearing the text 'WHY SEEK YE THE LIVING / AMONG THE DEAD ? / LUKE 24.5'. To his left stands a large urn. The tableau is crowned with ornamental scrollwork on the upper edge.
Valuation.
The grave monument is of general interest. It has cultural-historical values as a particular expression of the development of Roman Catholic grave culture and of a social development. Furthermore as a particular example and execution of a grave type based on the combined representations. It has art-historical value because of its representative character for Roman Catholic ecclesiastical sculpture from around the Second World War and the aesthetic qualities of the design. The object located on the cemetery has, together with the church, presbytery, other (grave) sculptures and the St. Ursulaklooster, ensemble values as part of a historically grown religious ensemble on Baroniestraat. This ensemble forms an important part of the Boxtel station district, which around 1900 developed into a separate parish. The object is of importance because of the integrity and the rarity of the combined representation executed in tuff stone.
