Inleiding
In het Rijn-Schiekanaal ligt tegenover het universiteitsgebouw voor Werktuig en Scheepsbouwkunde het SPORTVERENIGINGSGEBOUW van de Delftse Studenten Roeivereniging Laga (Botenhuis D.S.R.V. LAGA). Het gebouw werd ontworpen door ir. L.C. Kalff en ir. J.D.

Description
Introduction
On the Rijn-Schiekanaal, opposite the university building for Mechanical and Naval Engineering, lies the SPORTS ASSOCIATION BUILDING of the Delft Students Rowing Association Laga (Boathouse D.S.R.V. LAGA). The building was designed by ir. L.C. Kalff and ir. J.D. Hanrath in the style of the Amsterdam School and was taken into use in 1926. In addition to a boathouse and association rooms, the building also contained a caretaker's dwelling. The student rowing association was founded in 1876 and named after the goddess Laga from Norse mythology. The rowing association building is situated between the Nieuwelaan and the Rijn-Schiekanaal. On the Nieuwelaan side, there was a ditch. The LAGA building was accessed via two small bridges. The building stands with its north facade on the building line of the Nieuwelaan. On the water side there is a terrace and a landing stage.
N.B. The extension from the early nineties on the east side was not included in the national protection.
Description
The two-storey building is constructed from a roughly rectangular floor plan. The second storey has a recessed L-shape, which covers the north and west sides. On the one-storey building section - on the southeast side - there is a large terrace. This terrace is accessed by a plastically designed staircase, which is covered by an elongated, curved canopy. The southeast corner itself is built in a curved manner.
It is constructed in brick (in Flemish bond) and the facades are finished with a gres border. The doors and columns beneath the stair canopy are made of wood. The latter have a hardstone base. The standard window type consists of fixed windows with single, two-part or multi-pane steel fixed, hopper and casement windows.
The arrangement of the north facade is strongly determined by the caretaker's dwelling on the upper floor. On the first storey of the north facade (front facade) a horizontal window strip has been installed with fixed iron windows, which contain eight panes. The reveals above the windows are accentuated by embossed accents between the windows. The drip sills consist of gres tiles. The left window is segmental in form, has zigzag glazing bars and decorative brickwork. At the far right is a door in the style of the Amsterdam School, which provides access to the dwelling on the upper floor, with moulding and multi-part rectangular fanlights and sidelights. The second storey is provided with an elongated wooden oriel in potdekseled sections, which is rounded off on both sides. The wooden gutter above the oriel follows the curvature of the oriel and is executed with wooden clamps and gargoyles. The latter spouted - before the filling in - directly into the ditch. Above the gutter is a zinc finish. The windows in the wooden oriel are wooden, double and single casement windows. In the slightly higher, left building section are two fixed windows with respectively a single and a two-part steel window. On the north-east corner is an iron, diagonally placed wrought-iron weather vane holder with a weather vane depicting the goddess Laga. To the left, along the facade line, is a brick partition wall, which is finished with a gres border. The south facade faces the Rijn-Schiekanaal. The facade consists of one storey with a second storey on the southwest side, in which is a multi-pane window. On the southeast corner thereof is a high-built chimney, in which the text "DSRV LAGA" is incorporated and to which a flagstaff is attached. In the first storey, four double roller doors are placed with five panes in each door in deep reveals and original hanging and closing ironwork. Above the doors are series of five paired nearly square wooden lights flanked by the same lights with a wall beam between them. These series continue around the curved corner. On this corner is a decoratively executed wooden flagstaff. The facades around the terrace contain a series of the standard type windows and doors.
The elaborated spiral staircase characterises the east facade. In the one-storey section (left) is a door with above it a series of small windows, which are a continuation of the arrangement and detailing of the south facade. The right part of the facade, next to the staircase, is disturbed by an extension of a later date on one storey. The west facade is blind.
The interior consists of the boathouse, paint store and pole store on the ground floor and on the upper floor an association room, changing and shower room, administrative office and on the north side at the Nieuwelaan the boatswain's dwelling. Of importance in the interior are, among other things, the wooden and granolithic floors, lockers, tiling in showers, fitted cupboards and panelling in the administrative office and iron, riveted shelving in the boathouse.
