Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The FARMHOUSE of the transverse-partition type 'Marlothoeve' was built in 1868 on the Buitenwatersloot, in what was then still a rural area on the edge of the city of Delft. On the opposite side of the Buitenwatersloot is located the national monument, the former Kogelgieterij (shot foundry).
The farmhouse is no longer in use as an agricultural business. In the nineteen-sixties of the twentieth century, the farmhouse was internally rebuilt for a change of function, and at the same time reconstructively restored by the contractor Huurman, which moved to this location in 1963. On the grounds there are several sheds belonging to the contractor's business. These sheds are of minor importance for the protection.
Description
The farmhouse, separated from the street by a ditch with a shallow garden, is characterised by facades built of yellow IJsselstein with straight-closed sash windows, a transom window and wooden decorative weathervanes with moulding. The farmhouse is constructed from three volumes: a rectangular volume with a gabled roof perpendicular to the Buitenwatersloot, a rectangular volume adjoining on the west side and set slightly back with a gabled roof parallel to the Buitenwatersloot, and a volume situated behind the second volume, with a gabled roof perpendicular to the Buitenwatersloot. The gabled roofs are covered with improved smothered and red Dutch tiles. The overhangs are provided with wooden decorated weathervanes with moulding. Ogee-shaped wooden mouldings are placed under the roof edges.
All volumes are built of yellow bricks of IJsselformat, laid in Flemish bond, with fine jointing. Above the cellar window and the transom window, with a semicircular arch, red brick stretchers are placed. The remaining windows in the two residential volumes facing the Buitenwatersloot are four-pane Empire sash windows, fitted with two-pane fanlights. In the low facades of the stable section are eight-pane windows with semicircular four-pane fanlights.
The asymmetrical front facade (northwest side) is constructed from the gable with, to the right, the recessed side elevation. The ground floor situated above a cellar in the gable is slightly higher than the ground floor of the side elevation. In the gable two sash windows are placed above a cellar window. At the top of the facade are two small round-arch windows. The transition from gable to side elevation is marked by a five-sided bay window. In the plinth of the bay window is located the foundation stone of the farmhouse. To the right of the bay window is the entrance door. This wooden panelled door has a window decorated with lattice-work, fitted with a leaded glass fanlight. In the remaining part of the side elevation, sash windows are placed at regular intervals.
The rectangular asymmetrical left side facade is subdivided into three bays, each with a cellar window and a sash window above it.
The asymmetrical right side facade consists of a gable, with the side elevation of the stable section to the right. The gable is symmetrical in form, consisting of four windows in the first storey and one window at the top. In the centre of the side elevation is a large barn door. On either side of the door are smaller windows of different sizes.
Of the unexamined rear facade and the interior, it is only known that parts have been adapted to the residential and office function, belonging to the contractor's business.
