Inleiding
BIJGEBOUW 'De Tempel', behorende bij het complex 'Rode Scheikunde' dat gebouwd werd voor de afdeling der Scheikundige Technologie van de Technische hogeschool, naar ontwerp uit 1918-1923 van architect G. van Drecht. Het pand is gebouwd in een Traditionalistische stijl met invloeden uit de Amsterdamse School.
Het bijgebouw ligt ten zuidoosten van het hoofdgebouw, aan de zijde van de Schoenmakersstraat. Het staat zuidwest-noordoost georiënteerd omdat het oorspronkelijk evenwijdig aan de toendertijd schuin lopende straat stond.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand bijgebouw van één bouwlaag met plat dak, opgetrokken vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het gebouw heeft een betonnen constructie en de muren zijn opgetrokken in baksteen. De plint wordt afgesloten door een uitkragende waterlijst. Bakstenen lisenen accentueren de traveemaat. De ongeprofileerde kunststenen kapitelen risaleren ten opzichte van de kunststenen kroonlijst, waarvan ze deel uitmaken. De kunststenen lateien boven de rechtgesloten vensters lopen eveneens door in de kroonlijst. Deze lijst wordt bovenaan afgesloten met een bloklijst met daarboven de betonnen uitkragende gootlijst.
Waardering
Het bijgebouw 'De Tempel', onderdeel van het complex 'Rode Scheikunde' naar ontwerp van architect Van Drecht uit 1918-1923 is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde

ANCILLARY BUILDING 'De Tempel', belonging to the 'Rode Scheikunde' complex that was built for the department of Chemical Technology of the Technical University, designed in 1918-1923 by architect G. van Drecht. The building was constructed in a Traditionalist style with influences from the Amsterdam School.

Description
Freestanding ancillary building of one storey with flat roof, erected from a rectangular floor plan. The building has a concrete structure and the walls are constructed of brickwork. The plinth is finished by a projecting drip moulding. Brick pilasters accentuate the bay divisions. The undecorated stone capitals project in relation to the stone cornice, of which they form part. The stone lintels above the flush windows also run through into the cornice. This list is finished at the top with a block cornice with above it the concrete projecting gutter line.

The ancillary building 'De Tempel', component of the 'Rode Scheikunde' complex designed by architect Van Drecht from 1918-1923 is of general importance on account of its cultural and architectural-historical value
- on account of the place it occupies as a historic-functional component of the complex, later main building of the TU, in the history of Delft University of Technology and on account of the characteristic use of materials and detailing in Traditionalist manner in which there is strong ensemble work with the other complex components.
