Inleiding
Midden-19de-eeuwse GRENSPAAL op de hoek van de Rijksstraatweg en de Raaphorstlaan, is gelegen op de zuidwesthoek van de buitenplaats Eikenhorst. Z.K.H. Prins Frederik, tweede zoon van Koning Willem I verwierf in de periode 1838-1846 diverse landgoederen in Voorschoten (Ter Horst) en Wassenaar (o.a. Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien). Om de begrenzing van zijn omvangrijke landgoed aan te geven liet hij op de hoeken van zijn bezit grenspalen plaatsen, ter afbakening van zijn jachtgebied, waarvan nog slechts enkele op hun oorspronkelijke plaats staan. Deze paal markeert de zuidwesthoek van het grondgebied van de prins ten zuidoosten van de Rijksstraatweg.
Omschrijving
Op vierkant grondvlak, bijna twee meter hoge hardstenen grenspaal met kapelletjes en geprofileerde afdekking en basement. Aan de ene zijde is in bas-reliëf aangegeven 'HOEK', aan andere zijde de tekst 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik'.
Waardering
Grenspaal is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde door de typologische en de functionele, ruimtelijke samenhang met de buitenplaats Eikenhorst. De paal heeft tevens historisch-geografische waarde als onderdeel van een groter ensemble van grenspalen, de 19de-eeuwse begrenzing van het landgoed De Horsten, gelegen binnen de gemeenten Voorschoten en Wassenaar.

Introduction
Mid-19th-century BOUNDARY STONE on the corner of Rijksstraatweg and Raaphorstlaan, is located on the southwest corner of the country estate Eikenhorst. H.R.H. Prince Frederik, second son of King Willem I acquired in the period 1838-1846 various landed estates in Voorschoten (Ter Horst) and Wassenaar (among others Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien). To indicate the delimitation of his extensive landed estate he had boundary stones placed on the corners of his property, for the demarcation of his hunting ground, of which only a few still stand in their original location. This stone marks the southwest corner of the prince's territory to the southeast of Rijksstraatweg.
Description
On a square base, almost two metres high sandstone boundary stone with small chapel-like features and profiled coping and base. On one side is indicated in bas-relief 'HOEK', on the other side the text 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik'.
Valuation
Boundary stone is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value through the typological and the functional, spatial coherence with the country estate Eikenhorst. The stone also has historical-geographical value as part of a larger ensemble of boundary stones, the 19th-century delimitation of the landed estate De Horsten, located within the municipalities of Voorschoten and Wassenaar.
