Inleiding
Midden-19de-eeuwse GRENSPAAL, nabij het toegangshek van de buitenplaats Raaphorst. Z.K.H. Prins Frederik, tweede zoon van Koning Willem I, verwierf in de periode 1838-1846 diverse landgoederen in Wassenaar (o.a. Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien) en Voorschoten (Ter Horst). Om de begrenzing van zijn omvangrijke landgoed aan te geven, liet hij op de hoeken van zijn bezit grenspalen plaatsen, ter afbakening van zijn jachtgebied. Slechts enkele staan nog op hun oorspronkelijke plaats. Deze paal stond waarschijnlijk aan de andere zijde van het toegangshek.
Omschrijving
Op vierkant grondvlak, bijna twee meter hoge hardstenen grenspaal met kapelletjes en geprofileerde afdekking en basement. Aan ene zijde in basreliëf aangegeven 'HOEK', aan andere zijde de tekst 'Eigen jagt van Z.K.H. prins Frederik'.
Waardering
Grenspaal is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde door de typologische en de functionele, ruimtelijke samenhang met de buitenplaats Ter Horst. De paal is tevens van historisch-geografische waarde als onderdeel van een groter ensemble van grenspalen, de 19de-eeuwse begrenzing van het landgoed De Horsten, gelegen binnen de gemeenten Voorschoten en Wassenaar.

Introduction
Mid-19th-century BOUNDARY MARKER, near the access gate of the country estate Raaphorst. H.M. Prince Frederik, second son of King Willem I, acquired in the period 1838-1846 various landed estates in Wassenaar (including Raaphorst, Eikenhorst, De Paauw, Backershagen, Groot Haesebroek, Wildrust, De Drie Papegaaien) and Voorschoten (Ter Horst). To indicate the delimitation of his extensive estate, he had boundary markers placed at the corners of his property, to define his hunting grounds. Only a few remain in their original location. This post probably stood on the other side of the access gate.
Description
On a square footprint, almost two metres high hardstone boundary marker with small chapels and moulded covering and basement. On one side indicated in bas-relief 'HOEK', on the other side the text 'Private hunting ground of H.M. Prince Frederik'.
Valuation
Boundary Marker is of general interest on account of its cultural and architectural-historical value through its typological and functional, spatial relationship with the country estate Ter Horst. The post is also of historical-geographical value as part of a larger ensemble of boundary markers, the 19th-century delimitation of the estate De Horsten, situated within the municipalities of Voorschoten and Wassenaar.
