Introduction

The ENTRANCE GATE belonging to the Algemene Begraafplaats was designed in 1908 in Dutch Neo-Renaissance style by municipal architect S. Uden Masman. The gate piers of the entrance gate, which is positioned between two outbuildings, have been reconstructed in keeping with the style. The cemetery is accessible via a sheet piling wall with culvert, provided with brick paving, which leads to the entrance complex.

Description

The entrance gate consists of two gate piers, between which two rotatable wrought-iron gates are hung, executed with vertical bars and decorative rails. At the gate piers constructed of grey brick, soft yellow brick with a cross pattern is decoratively applied. On a hardstone coping there is as a crown a winged hourglass. Between the gate piers and the facades of the outbuildings, an identical wrought-iron gate is positioned on a parapet constructed of grey brick with hardstone coping.
