Inleiding
PastorieTUIN, deel uitmakend van het rooms-katholiek kerkelijk complex St. Laurentius. De in Engelse landschapsstijl aangelegde tuin dateert vermoedelijk van kort na de bouw van de kerk en pastorie in 1879-1880. Aan de zuidzijde wordt de pastorietuin begrensd door de Carmelietenstraat, aan de westzijde door de Molentocht en aan de noordzijde door de kerk en de begraafplaats. De leibomen en druiven tegen de kerkmuur en de bloemperken in het gazon zijn van recente datum. De voortuin is gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
Ruim 0,5 hectare grote pastorietuin waarvan de circa 87 meter diepe en 50 meter brede achtertuin zich achteraan enkele meters naar rechts (N) verbreed. De achtertuin bestaat uit een groot niervormig gazon dat omgeven wordt door slingerpaden en aan de zuidzijde begrensd is door een brede strook waarin verschillende soorten loofbomen (vroeger met name veel iepen) en struikgewas. Het gazon wordt in tweeën gedeeld door een gebogen dwarspad dat rechts eindigt bij het houten toegangshek dat vanaf het Stroomerlaantje toegang geeft tot de pastorietuin. In de achtertuin staan een aantal solitairbomen waaronder een oude notenboom direct achter de pastorie en halverwege rechts een grote groene beuk die gezien de stamomtrek van circa 4,5 meter omstreeks 400 jaar oud is en derhalve dateert van vòòr de aanleg van de huidige pastorietuin. In het tuingedeelte achter de pastorie bevinden zich verder diverse hoogstamfruitbomen waaronder appel- en perenbomen. Van de mispel die hier stond resteert de stronk. Achteraan wordt de pastorietuin begrensd door een strook met struikgewas en diverse bomen waaronder een oude paardekastanje.
Waardering
De pastorietuin is van algemeen belang wegens cultuurhistorische waarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het rooms-katholiek kerkelijk complex St. Laurentius. Verder vanwege de in tuinhistorische opzicht waardevolle samenhang tussen tuin, begraafplaats, Stroomerslaantje en het Kerkenbos.

Rectory GARDEN, forming part of the Roman Catholic church complex St. Laurentius. The garden, laid out in English landscape style, dates presumably from shortly after the construction of the church and rectory in 1879-1880. The rectory garden is bounded on the south side by the Carmelietenstraat, on the west side by the Molentocht and on the north side by the church and cemetery. The espalier trees and grapes against the church wall and the flower beds in the lawn are of recent date. The front garden has been altered.
Description
A generously proportioned 0.5 hectare rectory garden of which the approximately 87 metre deep and 50 metre wide rear garden widens slightly at the rear towards the right (N). The rear garden consists of a large kidney-shaped lawn surrounded by winding paths and bounded on the south side by a broad strip containing various types of deciduous trees (formerly particularly many elms) and shrubs. The lawn is divided in two by a curved cross path which ends on the right at a wooden access gate which gives access from the Stroomerlaantje to the rectory garden. In the rear garden stand a number of specimen trees including an old walnut tree directly behind the rectory and halfway along the right a large beech tree which, judged by its trunk circumference of approximately 4.5 metres, is approximately 400 years old and therefore dates from before the laying out of the present rectory garden. In the garden section behind the rectory are further various standard fruit trees including apple and pear trees. Of the medlar that stood here, only the stump remains. At the rear the rectory garden is bounded by a strip with shrubs and various trees including an old horse chestnut.

The rectory garden is of general importance because of its cultural-historical value as a historically-functional component of the Roman Catholic church complex St. Laurentius.
