Inleiding
SCHOOLGEBOUW van de voormalige Christelijke Lagere 'Wilhelminaschool', met aangrenzende CONCIERGEWONING gebouwd in 1903 in Art Nouveau-trant naar ontwerp van de Alkmaarse architect C.J. Ooms. Aan de voorgevel bevindt zich een tegeltableau met florale motieven in Art Nouveaustijl. Een gevelsteen vermeld de tekst: "op 17 mei 1903 werd de eerste steen gelegd door Cath. Corn. van Leeuwen en Joh. Wilh. Ber. Wechgelaer, spreuken 22:6". De oorspronkelijk achtergelegen vleugel met lokalen is afgebroken.
Het pand is onderdeel van de gesloten gevelwand aan de zuidoostzijde van de Doelenstraat.
Omschrijving
Het pand bestaat uit twee aaneengesloten bouwvolumes van verschillende maat en hoogte en van elk twee bouwlagen respectievelijk onder een afgeknot schilddak met rode geglazuurde pannen en plat dak. De hoge voorgevel van de voormalige school is aan de straatzijde zes venstertraveeën breed, het lage linkerdeel, dat aan de straatzijde twee vensterassen telt, diende tot conciërgewoning. De voorgevels zijn opgetrokken uit rode baksteen, de ontlastingsbogen boven de vensters zijn uitgevoerd in helrode baksteen. Alle vensters hebben een omlijsting van kunststenen blokken, deels met Art Nouveau-decoraties en bovenlichten met kleine roedenverdeling onder segment-, rond- en hoefijzerbogen. De gevelankers zijn uitgevoerd in Art Nouveau-trant.
De voorgevel van de school (NO) is in hoofdvorm symmetrisch en wordt aan weerszijden afgesloten door twee smalle risalieten van verschillende hoogte. De rechter risaliet wordt bekroond door een tentdakje en markeert de hoofdingang van de school op de begane grond. Boven de dubbele deur met halfrond bovenlicht onder hoefijzerboog een verdiepingsvenster en daarboven een decoratief tegeltableau onder hoefijzerboog. De linker risaliet, die wordt bekroond door een tuitgevel met Art Nouveau-detaillering, bevat de deur met diefijzers in Art Nouveautrant van de oorspronkelijk conciërgewoning. Boven de middelste twee vensterassen een iets risalerende tuitgevel, eveneens met decoratie in Art Nouveau-motief.

SCHOOL BUILDING of the former Christian Primary "Wilhelminaschool", with adjoining CARETAKER'S DWELLING built in 1903 in Art Nouveau style to the design of Alkmaar architect C.J. Ooms. On the front facade is a tile tableau with floral motifs in Art Nouveau style. A foundation stone inscription states: "on 17 May 1903 the foundation stone was laid by Cath. Corn. van Leeuwen and Joh. Wilh. Ber. Wechgelaer, Proverbs 22:6". The originally rear-located wing with classrooms has been demolished.
The property forms part of the closed facade wall on the southeast side of the Doelenstraat.
Description
The property consists of two adjoining building volumes of different size and height, each of two storeys respectively under a half-hipped roof with red glazed tiles and a flat roof. The tall front facade of the former school is six window bays wide on the street side; the low left section, which has two window axes on the street side, served as the caretaker's dwelling. The front facades are built of red brick; the relieving arches above the windows are executed in light red brick. All windows have a surround of artificial stone blocks, partly with Art Nouveau decoration and fanlights with small glazing bars under segmental, round and horseshoe arches. The wall anchors are executed in Art Nouveau style.
The front facade of the school (NE) is symmetrical in main form and is terminated on either side by two narrow risalits of different height. The right risalit is crowned by a tent roof and marks the main entrance to the school on the ground floor. Above the double door with semicircular fanlight under horseshoe arch is a first-floor window and above that a decorative tile tableau under horseshoe arch. The left risalit, which is crowned by a spout gable with Art Nouveau detailing, contains the door with Art Nouveau-style security grilles of the original caretaker's dwelling. Above the middle two window axes a slightly projecting spout gable, likewise with Art Nouveau motif decoration.
Between the windows of the ground floor and the first floor is a tile tableau on which the name "Wilhelminaschool" is indicated in capitals. The front facade of the former caretaker's dwelling (NE) contains two window axes and above the eaves line a segmental pediment with Art Nouveau decoration.
