FABRIEKSUITBREIDING uit 1940-1951, van het complex van de voormalige lettergieterij 'Amsterdam', voorheen N. Tetterode, naar een ontwerp van B. Merkelbach en Ch.J.F. Karsten (vanaf 1949 werkte Merkelbach samen met Elling) in de stijl van het Nieuwe Bouwen. De uitbreiding is tot stand gekomen op een rechthoekig grondplan. De standaardwerkvloeren hebben een betonnen spantconstructie, bekroond met een stalen opbouw. Het betonskelet is voorzien van een vliesgevel met ramen met een stalen geleding. De gevel lijkt opgebouwd uit horizontale stroken: borstweringen en ramen. Het gebouw heeft een hoge begane grond met insteek, telt verder vier verdiepingen en heeft een dakverdieping. Deze dakverdieping - waarin in oorsprong de kantine van de lettergieterij - is teruggezet ten opzichte van de voorgevel en heeft een brede luifel, deels uit bouwglas. Op de dakverdieping nog een samengestelde opbouw waarbij een halfrond volume met matglazen panelen en gebogen metalen hek. Delen van het interieur zijn overgebracht naar andere gebouwen.

FACTORY EXTENSION from 1940-1951 of the complex of the former type foundry 'Amsterdam', formerly N. Tetterode, to a design by B. Merkelbach and Ch.J.F. Karsten (from 1949 Merkelbach worked together with Elling) in the style of the Nieuwe Bouwen. The extension was constructed on a rectangular ground plan. The standard working floors have a concrete span structure, crowned with a steel superstructure. The concrete skeleton is provided with a curtain wall with windows with steel glazing bars. The facade appears constructed from horizontal strips: breastwork and windows. The building has a high ground floor with a recess, has a further four storeys and has an attic storey. This attic storey - which originally housed the canteen of the type foundry - is set back in relation to the front facade and has a wide canopy, partly of structural glass. On the attic storey a composite structure with a semicircular volume with frosted glass panels and curved metal fencing. Parts of the interior have been transferred to other buildings.
