Op 7 april 1902 werd de eerste steen gelegd van de veertig meter lange en in staalskeletbouw opgetrokken FABRIEK (1), onderdeel van het complex van de voormalige lettergieterij 'Ámsterdam', voorheen N. Tetterode. De fabriek is tot stand gekomen op een rechthoekig grondplan. De voorgevel heeft een rechte beëindiging. Het gebouw heeft een plat dak. Het middendeel heeft drie bouwlagen; de beide zijdelen hebben een tussenverdieping als insteek en hebben derhalve vier bouwlagen. De voorgevel is gemetseld met okerkleurige bakstenen. De invloed van de Art Nouveau is kenbaar bij de grote vensters met gedrukte toging en bij de granieten elementen met plantenmotieven in de decoratie. De gevel is sterk horizontaal en vertikaal geleed. De gevel van het fabriekspand heeft een hoge onderpui met grote vensters, die evenals die op de verdiepingen de voormalige functie kenmerken. In 1906 is het pand met een verdieping verhoogd, hetgeen in stijl is uitgevoerd. De gevelwand is tien vensterassen breed. Deze vensterassen worden van elkaar gescheiden door lisenen en muurdammen. Deze doorbreken de gevelbeëindiging zodat er boven de lijst verhoogde accenten ontstaan. In de gevel is een symmetrie aangegeven: het middendeel met de hoofdtoegangen heeft hoge vensters in de onderpui en de vensters op de verdiepingen zijn hier niet getoogd maar recht afgesloten; de zijdelen hebben een lagere onderpui met een insteek en de vensters op de verdiepingen zijn hier wel getoogd. In de togingen boven de vensters wordt de okerkleurige steen afgewisseld met een rode baksteen. Het gebruik van natuursteen komt verder voor bij aanzetstenen, sluitstenen en lateien. De vensters zijn verschillend samengesteld en hebben meest middels roedenverdeling gelede bovenlichten.

On 7 April 1902 the foundation stone was laid for the forty-metre-long FACTORY (1), constructed in steel skeleton, part of the complex of the former type foundry 'Amsterdam', formerly N. Tetterode. The factory was built on a rectangular ground plan. The front facade has a straight termination. The building has a flat roof. The middle section has three storeys; both side sections have a mezzanine as a setback and thus have four storeys. The front facade is built of ochre-coloured brick. The influence of Art Nouveau is evident in the large windows with recessed arches and in the granite elements with plant motifs in the decoration. The facade is strongly articulated both horizontally and vertically. The facade of the factory building has a high ground floor with large windows, which like those on the upper storeys characterise the former function. In 1906 the building was raised by one storey, which was executed in style. The facade wall is ten window bays wide. These window bays are separated from each other by pilasters and wall piers. The windows are variously composed and mostly have fanlights articulated by means of glazing bars.
