Inleiding
In het buitengebied van de gemeente Venlo bevindt zich een achtzijdige watertoren. De watertoren werd ontworpen door ir. Noorman uit Amersfoort en werd gebouwd in 1938. Bij een renovatie in 1986 werden alle vensters vervangen door aluminiumkozijnen met gewapend glas. Poort aan de straatzijde. De toegepaste bouwstijl is Traditionalisme. Het nabijgelegen waterstation valt niet onder de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaande achtzijdige watertoren. De toren is geheel in gewapend beton uitgevoerd; hoogte boven maaiveld is 33 meter; en een diameter van 8 meter. De toren telt zeven bouwlagen. De ingang bevindt zich aan de noordzijde. Rechthoekige dubbele deur met drie treden. Aan weerszijden van de deur een pilastervormige geveldeel met console. De watertoren is rondom aan de bovenzijde van de eerste bouwlaag voorzien van een betonnen luifel. In de eerste bouwlaag in elke gevelzijde een rechthoekig venster. In de tweede tot en met de zesde bouwlaag in de afgeschuinde hoekdelen een smal hoog venster. In de zevende bouwlaag een kruisvormig en enkele rechthoekige vensters. Aan de onderzijde van de zevende bouwlaag eveneens rondom een betonnen luifel. De dakrand is bekleed met karamisch materiaal. Het platte dak is bekleed met dakleer. Van het interieur is onder het volgende van belang. Interieur begane grond: betonnen kolommen; op de wanden zijn de afdrukken van de bekisting zichtbaar; de betonnen trappen naar het waterreservoir ook in beton uitgevoerd. In 1985 werd het waterreservoir van een kunststof deksel voorzien m.n. om te voorkomen dat uitwerpselen van duiven e.d. in het water zouden komen. Aan de straatzijde een poort bestaande uit vier betonnen kolommen met daartussen een groot dubbel smeedijzeren hekwerk met aan weerszijden een kleiner hekje.
Waardering
De watertoren met poort aan de straatzijde bij Egypte is van algemeen belang en bezit cultuurhistorische waarde met name economisch-historische waarde wegens het belang als onderdeel van de watervoorziening van Tegelen. De watertoren bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de toegepaste bouwstijl en als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van architect Noorman en vanwege het grotendeels gave interieur. De watertoren is tevens van algemeen belang vanwege de situering in het buitengebied van Tegelen, vanwege de algehele gaafheid en typologische zeldzaamheid.

Description
Freestanding octagonal water tower. The tower is entirely constructed in reinforced concrete; height above ground level is 33 metres; and a diameter of 8 metres. The tower has seven storeys. The entrance is on the north side. Rectangular double door with three steps. On either side of the door a pilaster-shaped facade section with console. The water tower is equipped around the top of the first storey with a concrete canopy. In the first storey in each facade side a rectangular window. In the second through sixth storey in the bevelled corner sections a narrow tall window. In the seventh storey a cross-shaped and several rectangular windows. At the bottom of the seventh storey likewise around a concrete canopy. The roof edge is clad with ceramic material. The flat roof is clad with roofing felt. Of the interior the following is of importance. Interior ground floor: concrete columns; the imprints of the shuttering are visible on the walls; the concrete stairs to the water reservoir also executed in concrete. In 1985 the water reservoir was fitted with a plastic cover chiefly to prevent droppings from pigeons etc. from getting into the water. On the street side a gate consisting of four concrete columns with between them a large double wrought-iron grille with on either side a smaller gate.
