Omschrijving
Inleiding complexonderdeel 2

Description
Introduction to complex component 2
COACH HOUSE, belonging to the country estate Frisiastate, in New Historicist style with influence from the Neo-Dutch Renaissance and English Country House style from 1910 according to a design by architects Z. Hoek and J.T. Wouters. The client was E.P. de Monchy from Rotterdam.
Description
The coach house has a U-shaped floor plan and consists of a main volume, partly constructed over two storeys, with carriage passage and upper dwelling and two low stable buildings around a courtyard, which is enclosed by a wall and a gate. The two-storey central section of the main volume is covered by a mansard roof and the lower side wings by broken gabled roofs. Above the stable buildings asymmetrical gabled roofs, the roof slopes of which are extended with flared roof edge on the courtyard side. The roofs are covered with slate in Maas bond. Like the country house, the facades are, above a high plinth of brown brick, constructed in red brick in cross bond. The corners of the building are built out as buttresses. The facades are decorated with natural stone decorative bands and blocks and relief tiles with Oriental ornamental work. In the gable tops of the stable buildings sandstone reliefs with horse heads. In the front and rear facades (north and south) of the two-storey section on the ground floor the carriage passage with large doors under round arches, flanked by windows with semicircular fanlight. On the upper floor double six-pane windows of the dwelling. In the low side wing on the west side a carriage entrance under round arch and in the gable top a hay loft with hoist beam. The door to the upper dwelling is located in the east side wing, which on the ground floor contains a harness room.
In front of the stable buildings on either side of the courtyard a veranda under flared roof slope resting on three wooden posts. On each side three tiled horse boxes with wooden panelling and horizontally divided stable door. The courtyard between the stable buildings is enclosed by a waist-high wall and a higher wrought iron gate with two swing leaves between brick gate piers with natural stone treads. The courtyard is paved with tiles in herringbone pattern.
Valuation
The coach house dating from 1910, belonging to the country house Frisistate, is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value
- as functional component of the complex, built by analogy with historical country estates.
- because of the specific typology, based on historical examples and the New Historicist building style with influence from the Neo-Dutch Renaissance and English Country House style, identical to that of the country house. The coach house is virtually intact in principal form, use of materials and detailing. Internally, amongst others the horse boxes and a harness room have been preserved.
The coach house possesses high ensemble value as a historical-functional component of the Frisistate complex in relation to the country house.
