GEDENKBANK met PERGOLA`S, in 1928 ontworpen door de Haagse architect J.J. (Co Brandes) in een (Vaderlandse) Rustieke bouwstijl met invloeden van de Nieuwe Haagse School, geplaatst ter ere van burgemeester Storm van 's Gravensande. De gedenkbank met pergola is de pendant van de tegenover gelegen muziektent en is gesitueerd in de zuidwesthoek van het plantsoen, in het verlengde van de middenas gelegen wetering.
Omschrijving
Uit rode handvormsteen (kettingverband) opgetrokken zitbank heeft een segmentboogvormig grondvlak, dat aan weerszijden eindigt in een pergola. De gebogen leuning van de bank wordt gesloten door een kantstaande rollaag, en heeft in het midden een natuurstenen haut-reliëf met de tekst: 'BURGEMEESTER STORM VAN 's GRAVENSANDE' De hardstenen zitting van de bank rust op gemetselde pijlertjes. Op de afsluitende muurtjes van de bank is een natuurstenen reliefsteen aangebracht met het jaartal '1911' en '1928'.
Op de twee pijlers van de pergola`s rust een houten ligger met dwarsbalkjes. De pijler tegenover de gedenkbank wordt geflankeerd door een dwarsmuurtje met gemetselde bloembakken langs de waterpartij.
Waardering
De uit 1928 daterende gedenkbank met pergola is van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- , cultuurhistorische en stedenbouwkundige waarde:
- als representatief voorbeeld van een karakteristieke monument uit de jaren '20 van de 20ste eeuw, ontworpen in een (Vaderlandse) Rustieke bouwstijl met invloeden van de Nieuwe Haagse School;
- als onderdeel van het oeuvre van de Haagse architect J.J. Brandes, de grondlegger van de Nieuwe Haagse school;
- door de karakteristieke vormgeving en detaillering van de gedenkbank en de pergola in een (Vaderlandse) Rustieke bouwstijl met invloeden van de Nieuwe Haagse School;

COMMEMORATIVE BENCH with PERGOLAS, designed in 1928 by The Hague architect J.J. (Co Brandes) in a (Patriotic) Rustic building style with influences from the New Hague School, erected in honour of mayor Storm van 's Gravensande. The commemorative bench with pergola is the counterpart to the facing music tent and is situated in the south-western corner of the public garden, in the extension of the central waterway.
Description
A seating bench constructed from red hand-moulded brick (chain bond) has a segmentally arched ground plan, ending on both sides in a pergola. The curved backrest of the bench is closed by a vertical course of bricks, and has in the middle a natural stone haut-relief with the text: 'BURGEMEESTER STORM VAN 's GRAVENSANDE'. The hard stone seat of the bench rests on small masonry piers. On the closing walls of the bench a natural stone relief stone has been placed with the year '1911' and '1928'.
On the two piers of the pergolas rests a wooden beam with cross-timbers. The pier opposite the commemorative bench is flanked by a cross wall with masonry flower boxes along the water feature.
