Inleiding complexonderdeel 1
PLANTSOENAANLEG, in samenwerking met J.T. Wouters in 1928 ontworpen in een Decoratieve Tuinstijl door de Haagse architect J.J. (Co Brandes). De tuin- en landschapsarchitect H. Roeters van Lennep was, als adviseur van de gemeente, toezichthouder tijdens de aanleg van het park. Voor de waterpartij is gebruik gemaakt van de reeds bestaande oude wetering.
Omschrijving
Ellipsvormig, plantsoen met in de middenas een T-vormige langgerekte, waterpartij, waarvan de lange as centraal is gesitueerd en de dwarsas zich aan de bredere noordoostzijde bevindt. Aan deze zijde biedt de hoger gelegen muziektent een ruim uitzicht over de waterpartij, die aan de zuidwestzijde wordt afgesloten door de gedenkbank met pergola. In het midden van de waterpartij is een fontein geplaatst.
Rondom de waterpartij bevinden zich gazons, een wandelpad en vaste plantenborders met een gevarieerde beplanting qua kleur en vorm. In de beide oksels van de T-vormige waterpartij staan twee Watercypressen (Metasequoia glyptostroboides). Langs het water staan enkele Treurwilgen, verder ondermeer een beplanting met prunes, coniferen.
De gedenkbank aan de zuidwestzijde heeft een hoge haag met taxussen. Nabij de muziektent staan twee kastanjebomen.
Waardering
Plantsoenaanleg behorend bij het Burchtpleincomplex is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- tuin- en cultuurhistorische waarde:
- als representatief voorbeeld van een openbare groenvoorziening in de Decoratieve Tuinstijl uit de jaren '20 van de twintigste eeuw met bijbehorende objecten;
- als ontwerp uit het oeuvre van de Haagse architect J.J. Brandes, de grondlegger van de Nieuwe Haagse School;
- als beeldbepalend en historisch ruimtelijk en functioneel onderdeel van de stedenbouwkundige aanleg van een van de eerste planmatige stedenbouwkundige stadsuitbreidingen van Wassenaar nabij de historische kern, in de trant van de tuinstadgedachte;
Het plantsoen met bijbehorende complexonderdelen zijn gaaf in hoofdvorm, materiaalgebruik en detaillering.

PUBLIC GARDEN, designed in collaboration with J.T. Wouters in 1928 in a Decorative Garden Style by The Hague architect J.J. (Co Brandes). The garden and landscape architect H. Description
Elliptical public garden with a T-shaped elongated water feature in the central axis, of which the long axis is centrally situated and the transverse axis is located at the broader northeast side. On this side, the higher-positioned bandstand offers an extensive view over the water feature, which is closed off on the southwest side by the memorial bench with pergola. In the middle of the water feature a fountain has been placed.
Around the water feature are lawns, a walking path and fixed planting borders with varied planting in terms of colour and form. In both corners of the T-shaped water feature stand two Water Cypresses (Metasequoia glyptostroboides). Along the water stand several Weeping Willows, furthermore amongst others planting with plums, conifers.
The memorial bench on the southwest side has a high hedge with yews. Near the bandstand stand two chestnut trees.

Public garden belonging to the Burchtplein complex is of general interest on account of its architectural, garden and cultural-historical value:
- as a representative example of a public green space in the Decorative Garden Style from the 1920s with associated objects;
- as a design from the oeuvre of The Hague architect J.J. Brandes, the founder of the New Hague School;
- as a characteristic and historic spatial and functional component of the urban planning layout of one of the first planned urban extensions of Wassenaar near the historic centre, in the manner of the garden city concept;
