Inleiding complexonderdeel 1
Hoofdonderdeel van de historische buitenplaats Eikenrode is het WOONHUIS van het type villa, gebouwd in opdracht van de heer J.E. Romeny, in 1913 naar tekeningen van de architecten Smits en Fels in een aan de Engelse Landhuisstijl verwante bouwstijl. In stijl werd in 1933 tegen de oostzijde een kleine dienstvleugel aangebouwd. De villa Eikenrode is gelegen aan de westelijke zijde van de Rijksstraatweg en maakt onderdeel uit van het villapark De Pauw.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags, langgerekt pand in rode baksteen opgetrokken onder een samenstel van verspringende schilddaken met overstek. De uitzwenkende, overstekende dakschilden zijn met riet gedekt, de verdiept geplaatste dakkapellen zijn met het riet meegedekt. De voorgevel (noord) is een langsgevel met een door de dakvoet lopend risaliet waarin de entree met stoep geplaatst is. Deze bevindt zich in een rondboogvormig portiek met een luifel, bekleed met kunststeen steunend op zuilen met fantasiekapitelen, eveneens uitgevoerd in kunststeen. De rondboogvormige hardhouten paneeldeur heeft een klein sierrooster. In het portiek is een lantaarn geplaatst. Boven de entree een plaquette met de naam van het pand, geflankeerd door wapenschilden. Op de verdieping van het risaliet een driedelig venster met glas-in-lood. Het risaliet eindigt in een balkon met een in siermetselwerk uitgemetselde borstwering en heeft aan weerszijden ter plaatse van de begane grond en de verdieping dubbele vensters, op de begane grond voorzien zijn van luiken. In het linker deel van de voorgevel is op de begane grond een dienstingang onder een luifel geplaatst, daarnaast een driedelig venster met luiken en op de verdieping twee kleinere vensters. Tegen de kopse gevelzijde (oost) is de eenlaagse dienstvleugel aangebouwd onder een afzonderlijk, rietgedekt schilddak en voorzien van dubbele, met luiken behangen vensters.
De achtergevel bestaat uit twee bouwdelen waarvan de rechter iets teruggeplaatst is. Hierin zijn op de begane grond en de verdieping twee dubbele vensters geplaatst, op de begane grond voorzien zijn van luiken. Voor het linker bouwdeel is een terras aangelegd dat tot aan de westelijke zijgevel loopt en omgeven is door een in siermetselwerk opgemetselde balustrade. Enkele treden komen via het terras uit bij de vijver. Het centrale deel van deze bouwmassa ligt terug en vormt als zodanig op de begane grond een overdekt terras en op de verdieping een loggia met een houten balustrade. Aan weerszijden hiervan op de begane grond een driezijde erker en op de verdieping een samengestelde vensterpartij.
De kopse gevel aan de westzijde heeft over de hele hoogte een driedelige erker.
INTERIEUR. De ruimteindeling en aankleding van het interieur bevinden zich in de oorspronkelijke staat. Vermeldenswaardig zijn onder meer de met marmer uitgelegde vestibule, trap met gesneden balusters, balkenzolderingen en een ingebouwde kast in de eetkamer en stucplafonds.

The principal component of the historical country estate Eikenrode is the DWELLING HOUSE of the villa type, built on behalf of Mr J.E. Romeny, in 1913 according to designs by architects Smits and Fels in a building style related to the English Country House style. In keeping with the style, a small service wing was added to the east side in 1933. The villa Eikenrode is situated on the western side of the Rijksstraatweg and forms part of the villa park De Pauw.
Description
Two-storey, elongated building constructed in red brick beneath a composition of offset hipped roofs with overhang. The projecting overhanging roof panels are thatched with reed, the recessed roof dormers are thatched in keeping with the reed. The front facade (north) is a side facade with a projecting element running through the roof edge in which the entrance with stoop is placed. This is situated in a round-arched portico with a canopy, clad in artificial stone resting on columns with fantasy capitals, likewise executed in artificial stone. The round-arched hardwood panelled door has a small ornamental grille. A lantern is placed in the portico. Above the entrance a plaque with the name of the building, flanked by coats of arms. On the storey of the projecting element a three-part window with leaded glass. The projecting element terminates in a balcony with a parapet built in ornamental brickwork and has on either side at the level of the ground floor and first floor double windows, on the ground floor provided with shutters. In the left part of the front facade a service entrance is placed on the ground floor beneath a canopy, next to it a three-part window with shutters and on the first floor two smaller windows. Against the gable end on the east side the single-storey service wing is built on beneath a separate, thatch-covered hipped roof and provided with double windows hung with shutters.
The rear facade consists of two building sections of which the right one is set back slightly. In these, on the ground floor and first floor two double windows are placed, on the ground floor provided with shutters. In front of the left building section a terrace is laid out extending to the western side facade and surrounded by a balustrade built in ornamental brickwork. A few steps from the terrace lead to the pond. The central section of this building mass is set back and thus forms on the ground floor a covered terrace and on the first floor a loggia with a wooden balustrade. On either side of this on the ground floor a three-sided bay window and on the first floor a composite window arrangement.
The gable end on the west side has a three-part bay window over its full height.
INTERIOR. The spatial arrangement and decoration of the interior are in the original condition. Notable are among others the vestibule paved with marble, staircase with carved balusters, beam ceilings and a built-in cupboard in the dining room and stucco ceilings.
