Inleiding
Bij de ophaalbrug 'de Kerkbrug' over de Vliet staat een in Chaletstijl gebouwd BRUGWACHTERSHUISJE. Dit in 1892, tegelijkertijd met de brug gebouwde huisje stond oorspronkelijk aan de andere kant van het water. In 1978 is het echter verplaatst naar de huidige locatie, waar het nog steeds de oorspronkelijke functie heeft. Het huisje is vrijwel identiek aan het niet meer als zodanig in gebruik zijnde brugwachtershuisje bij de 'Nieuwe Tolbrug'. Het brugwachtershuisje maakt deel uit van het beschermde dorpsgezicht Voorburg.
Omschrijving
Vanuit een in hoofdzaak vierkante plattegrond, in schone baksteen en vakwerk opgetrokken huisje onder een uitkragend tentdak met gemetselde schoorsteen op de top en een dunne, staande onderrand. De gevelopeningen zijn rechtgesloten. Tegen de linker zijde tegen staat een minder hoog opgaand, eveneens in vakwerk uitgevoerd gemak met plat dak. De gevels van de hoofdvorm zijn zogenaamde vakwerkgevels, die bestaan uit een samenstel van houten stijlen, regels en kruishouten met invullingen van schone baksteen, staan boven een iets bredere, eveneens gemetselde plint. De evenwijdig met de Kerkstraat staande gevel bevat een boven een gemetseld stoepje staande paneeldeur met links daarvan een smal zijlicht. Tegen de blinde linker gevel staat een tegelijkertijd aangebouwd gemak met een naar de Kerkstraat gericht paneeldeur. De achtergevel van het bruchtwachterhuisje is - evenals de naar het water gerichte gevel - in het midden voorzien van een venster.
Waardering
De brugwachtershuisje is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de architectuurhistorische en de stedebouwkundige waarde:
- als een bijzonder onderdeel van een zeer oude infrastructurele voorziening en als een goed voorbeeld van een typologische ontwikkeling hierin.
- vanwege het voor de bouwtijd kenmerkende materiaalgebruik, de detaillering en de vormgeving in chaletstijl.
- vanwege de situering, vanwege de bijzondere visuele en functionele samenhang met de ophaalbrug en vanwege de relatie met vergelijkbare brugcomplexen elders aan en over de Vliet, waardoor het tevens een essentiëel onderdeel van een groter geheel is.
Het brugwachtershuisje is bovendien van belang vanwege de herkenbaarheid en de gaafheid.

Introduction
At the bascule bridge 'de Kerkbrug' across the Vliet stands a BRIDGE-KEEPER'S LODGE built in Chalet style. This lodge, built in 1892, at the same time as the bridge, originally stood on the other side of the water. In 1978, however, it was relocated to its current location, where it still serves its original function. The lodge is virtually identical to the no-longer-in-use bridge-keeper's lodge at 'de Nieuwe Tolbrug'. The bridge-keeper's lodge forms part of the protected village townscape Voorburg.
Description
From a substantially square ground plan, constructed in fair-faced brickwork and timber-framing, the lodge stands under a projecting tent roof with a moulded chimney on top and a thin, standing lower edge. The facade openings are square-headed. Against the left side stands a lower outbuilding, likewise executed in timber-framing with a flat roof. The facades of the main building are so-called timber-framed facades, which consist of an assembly of wooden posts, beams and cross-timbers with infills of fair-faced brickwork, standing above a slightly broader, likewise moulded plinth. The facade parallel to Kerkstraat contains a panel door standing above a moulded step, with a narrow side-light to its left. Against the blank left facade stands an outbuilding built at the same time, with a panel door facing Kerkstraat. The rear facade of the bridge-keeper's lodge is—as is the facade facing the water—fitted in the middle with a window.
Valuation
The bridge-keeper's lodge is of general importance on account of its cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-design value:
