Inleiding
TRANSFORMATORHUISJE, ontworpen door architect J.B van Loghem in 1918 voor het P.E.N. (Provinciaal Energieberdijf van Noord-Holland). Het transformatorhuisje, gebouwd in 1918 en verbouwd in 1919, is gesitueerd aan de noordzijde van Kruitmolen (voorheen Ouderkerkerlaan). Volgens aantekeningen op het oorspronkelijke schetsontwerp van Van Loghem had het trafohuisje een bliksemafleider op het dak, een dak met begrind asfalt dakpapier en cementplaten binnen en een oorspronkelijke kleurstelling van het houten fries in oranje en zwart. Op de plaatsen waar aan weerszijden van de stalen toegangsdeur betonnen gevelplaten zijn aangebracht, bevonden zich in oorsprong twee liggende stalen vensters, elk met twaalf ruitjes.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwd transformatorhuisje, bestaande uit één bouwlaag onder een gebogen tentdak met dakleer. De lengterichting loopt evenwijdig aan Kruitmolen. De breedte van het trafohuisje is 5.10 m en de diepte is 3.51 m, waarvan ongeveer 65 cm in het water van de sloot staat.
Het pand is opgetrokken boven een plint van bruine baksteen, waarin diverse kleine ontluchtingsroosters zijn aangebracht. Het muurwerk boven de plint is ruw gecementeerd en begrind. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een rondomlopend fries van alternerend bredere en smalle kortere verticale latjes, waarvan de onderzijden zijn afgerond.
De voorgevel (Z) heeft in het midden een stalen deur met daarboven een stalen ontluchtingsrooster. Aan weerszijden van de deur bevindt zich een betonnen gevelplaat. De hoeken van zowel voor- (Z) als achtergevel (N) hebben naar beneden toe een licht tapstoelopend profiel.
De zijgevels zijn blind en hebben op ooghoogte een siertegel. De rechterzijgevel (O) heeft een siertegel met de afbeelding van een waakhond, de linkerzijgevel (W) heeft een siertegel met de afbeelding van een haan.
Waardering
Het transformatorhuisje is van algemeen belang uit cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een transformatorhuisje uit de eerste decennia van de 20ste eeuw. TRANSFORMATOR HUT, designed by architect J.B van Loghem in 1918 for the P.E.N. (Provincial Energy Company of North Holland). The transformer hut, built in 1918 and altered in 1919, is situated on the north side of Kruitmolen (formerly Ouderkerkerlaan). According to notes on Van Loghem's original sketch design, the transformer hut had a lightning conductor on the roof, a roof with rolled asphalt roofing paper and cement panels inside, and an original colour scheme for the wooden frieze in orange and black. In the places where concrete facade panels have been installed on either side of the steel access door, there were originally two recumbent steel windows, each with twelve panes.
Description
Transformer hut built on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of one storey beneath a curved tent roof with roofing felt. The longitudinal direction runs parallel to Kruitmolen. The width of the transformer hut is 5.10 m and the depth is 3.51 m, of which approximately 65 cm stands in the water of the ditch.
The building is constructed above a plinth of brown brick, in which various small ventilation grilles have been installed. The brickwork above the plinth is roughly rendered and formed. The facade is finished with a continuous frieze of alternating wider and narrower short vertical laths, the undersides of which are rounded.
The front facade (S) has in the centre a steel door with above it a steel ventilation grille. On either side of the door is a concrete facade panel. The corners of both the front (S) and rear facade (N) have a slightly tapering profile towards the bottom.
The side facades are blank and have a decorative tile at eye level. The right-hand side facade (E) has a decorative tile with the image of a guard dog, the left-hand side facade (W) has a decorative tile with the image of a rooster.
Valuation
The transformer hut is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance as a well-preserved example of a transformer hut from the first decades of the 20th century. Furthermore, the building is of significance as a characteristic component of the oeuvre of architect J.B. van Loghem.
