Inleiding
Buiten het huidige terrein van Duin en Bosch gelegen dubbele DIENSTWONING in de stijl van het Rationalisme met kenmerken van de Chalet-stijl. Deze twee woningen zijn in 1904-1905 gebouwd naar ontwerp van de architect F.W.M. Poggenbeek ten behoeve van "twee opwonende beambten" van Duin en Bosch. In 1909 woonden hier de eerste timmerman en de tweede machinist. Kenmerkend voor de stijl van Poggenbeek zoals gebruikt voor Duin en Bosch is de pleisterlaag over de verdieping, het vakwerk en het verticale beschot in de topgevel.
Omschrijving
Op een rechthoekige plattegrond in grauw bakstenen kruisverband opgetrokken dubbelwoning onder een met rode holle pannen gedekt zadeldak met steekkappen. Langs de overkragende kappen op consoles bevinden zich windveren en boeiboorden. De verdieping en de topgevel zijn gepleisterd met in de pleisterlaag een één- en een tweelaagse bakstenen band. De pleisterlaag loopt door tot de bovendorpels van de kozijnen. De kozijnstijlen zijn decoratief gesneden. De gemetselde segmentbogen op de begane grond hebben aanzetstenen van hardsteen. Van hetzelfde materiaal zijn de hoekblokjes van het trasraam en de lekdorpels. De aan de straatzijde gelegen, symmetrische voorgevel (zuid) telt vier vensterassen met in de buitenste beneden twee gekoppelde schuiframen met tweeruits bovenlicht en boven een laag T-raam met vierruits bovenlicht, en in de binnenste vensterassen op de parterre vier smalle gekoppelde schuiframen met tweeruits bovenlicht en op de verdieping een door lage zijlichten geflankeerd T-raam waarboven vakwerk en een steekkap. Beide zijgevels zijn uitgevoerd als topgevel met ter hoogte van de zolder vakwerk en bovenin een verticaal schot. De oostelijke zijgevel heeft op de verdieping twee T-ramen als in de voorgevel en rechts een kleiner tweeruits venster. Op de begane grond centraal de (vernieuwde) voordeur met links een gekoppeld kozijn waarin twee schuiframen met tweeruits bovenlicht en ter rechter zijde een kleiner vierruits raam met opgeklampt luik. De westelijke zijgevel is gespiegeld aan de oostelijke, maar heeft op de begane grond rechts een uitbouw in halfsteens verband onder een overkragend plat dak. De uitbouw heeft in de westzijde dubbele deuren met aan weerszijden een raam, onder bovenlichten. De achtergevel (noord) heeft de symmetrie-as in het midden van de topgevel. De topgevel is versierd met vakwerk (in de as diagonaal) en een verticaal beschot. Op de verdieping een gekoppeld kozijn bestaande uit een T-raam met vierruits bovenlicht, aan weerszijden geflankeerd door een smal venster. Hiernaast is een kleiner gekoppeld kozijn geplaatst bestaande uit twee tweeruits ramen met verticale roedenverdeling. De entree op de begane grond bestaat uit een deur met zesruits venster, een drieruits bovenlicht en een smal venster. Naar de hoek toe bevindt zich een klein raam, aan de andere kant van de deur vier gekoppelde smalle ramen.
Waardering
De dubbele dienstwoning uit 1904-1905 is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het ziekenhuiscomplex Duin en Bosch. Double STAFF DWELLING situated outside the current Duin en Bosch grounds, in the style of Rationalism with characteristics of the Chalet style. These two dwellings were built in 1904-1905 after a design by architect F.W.M. Poggenbeek for the benefit of "two resident staff members" of Duin en Bosch. In 1909 the first carpenter and the second engineer lived here. Description
Double dwelling on a rectangular ground plan, constructed in grey brick in Flemish bond, under a gabled roof covered with red curved tiles with saddle pieces. Along the overhanging eaves on consoles are wind braces and barge boards. The first storey and gabled roof are plastered with one- and two-course brick bands in the plaster layer. The plaster layer extends to the upper sill boards of the windows. The window-frame stiles are decoratively carved. The mortared segmental arches on the ground floor have hardstone voussoirs. Of the same material are the corner blocks of the transom window and the drip mouldings. The symmetrical front facade facing the street (south) has four window bays with in the outer ones on the ground floor two coupled sash windows with two-pane fanlights and above a low T-window with four-pane fanlight, and in the inner window bays on the ground floor four narrow coupled sash windows with two-pane fanlights and on the first storey a T-window flanked by low side lights with timber framing above and a saddle piece. Both side facades are executed as gabled roofs with timber framing at the level of the attic and above a vertical partition. The eastern side facade has on the first storey two T-windows as in the front facade and to the right a smaller two-pane window. On the ground floor centrally the (renewed) front door with to the left a coupled window frame containing two sash windows with two-pane fanlights and on the right side a smaller four-pane window with a hinged shutter. The western side facade is mirrored to the eastern one, but has on the ground floor to the right an extension in half-brick bond under an overhanging flat roof. The extension has on the west side double doors with a window at either side, under fanlights. The rear facade (north) has the axis of symmetry in the centre of the gabled roof. The gabled roof is decorated with timber framing (diagonal in the axis) and vertical boarding. On the first storey a coupled window frame consisting of a T-window with four-pane fanlight, flanked at either side by a narrow window. Adjacent to this is a smaller coupled window frame consisting of two two-pane windows with vertical glazing bars. The entrance on the ground floor consists of a door with six-pane window, a three-pane fanlight and a narrow window. Towards the corner is a small window, on the other side of the door four coupled narrow windows.
Valuation
