Inleiding
KERK uit 1908, deel uitmakend van het ziekenhuiscomplex Duin en Bosch. Het georiënteerde kerkgebouw is gebouwd in Traditionalistische trant en gesitueerd aan de westzijde van de naar het hoofdgebouw leidende Duinenboschweg. Het eerste jaarverslag (over 1909) van de Commissie van bestuur van Duin en Bosch vermeldt over het in juni 1908 aanbestede kerkgebouw: "Dit biedt ruimte voor ongeveer 160 personen, terwijl op een galerij ook nog stoelen geplaatst kunnen worden voor 50 à 60 bezoekers. Het kan zoowel voor Katholieken als Protetantschen eerdedienst worden ingericht." In 1969 vond een verbouwing plaats waarbij de buitengevels werden witgesausd, de vensterindeling werd gewijzigd en de ingang verplaatst van het (gesloopte) ingangsportaal tegen de westgevel naar het koor. Tevens werd het interieur gemoderniseerd.
Omschrijving
Zaalkerk met een zadeldak en een klein rechthoekig koor waarvan het zadeldak zich deels lager doorzet boven kleine flankerende nevenruimten. Beide daken hebben de nokrichting nagenoeg haaks op de weg en zijn gedekt met rode (OVH-)pannen. Halverwege de nok van het kerkdak staat een vierkante dakruiter met een zich verjongende leigedekte voet, een open houten middengedeelte met in elke zijde een ronde opening en hierboven een leigedekte spits die voorzien is van een uitgezwenkte voet en bekroond wordt door een haan. De buitengevels zijn opgetrokken in rode machinale waalsteen in kruisverband met snijvoeg boven een platvol gevoegde plint (hetzelfde metselwerk) met een afgeschuinde hardstenen bovenrand. De zijgevels worden bovenaan afgesloten door een fries van siermetselwerk waarboven een lijstgoot op geprofileerde klossen. De kopse oost- en westgevel zijn uitgevoerd als een tuitgevel voorzien van vlechtingen en afgedekt met hardsteen. Verder is ook hardsteen toegepast voor de lekdorpels van de vensters. De aanzetten van de ontlastingsbogen boven de vensters zijn uitgevoerd in zandsteen. In de door steunberen geflankeerde westgevel bevindt zich links en rechts een klein dichtgezet venster (waartussen vroeger een ondiep ingangsportaal met zadeldak), en middenboven een drietal getoogde vensters waarvan het middelste hoger is uitgevoerd. Beide zijgevels worden door steunberen in zes traveeën geleed. Elke travee is voorzien van een hoog aangebracht getoogd venster (in de zuidgevel dichtgezet).
De oostgevel van het voormalige koor is uitgevoerd als een verkleinde versie van de oostgevel van de kerkzaal en eveneens met hardsteen afgedekt en voorzien van vlechtingen. Tegen deze gevel sluit een open portiek aan waarvan het lessenaarsdak gedekt is met rode (OVH-)pannen. Ter weerszijden hiervan is de oostgevel voorzien van een hoog aangebracht (en dichtgezet) spitsboogvenster. Om de hoek bevindt zich in de smalle zijkanten van het koor een dito venster. De genoemde nevenruimten ter weerszijden van het koor zijn elk voorzien van een tweetal vensters.
Inwendig rust de ziende kap op vijf door trekstangen versterkte spanten waarvan de van korbelen voorziene muurstijlen geplaatst zijn op hoog in de muur aangebrachte consoles.
Waardering
Het kerkgebouw uit 1908 is van algemeen belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het ziekenhuiscomplex Duin en Bosch.

CHURCH from 1908, forming part of the Duin en Bosch hospital complex. The oriented church building is constructed in Traditionalist style and situated on the west side of the Duinenboschweg leading to the main building. The first annual report (for 1909) of the Board of Management of Duin en Bosch mentions regarding the church building tendered in June 1908: "This provides space for approximately 160 persons, while on a gallery seats can also be placed for 50 to 60 visitors. It can be fitted out for both Catholic and Protestant worship." In 1969 a renovation took place whereby the outer facades were whitewashed, the window arrangement was altered and the entrance was moved from the (demolished) entrance portico against the west facade to the choir. The interior was also modernised.
Description
Hall church with a gabled roof and a small rectangular choir whose gabled roof is partly lower, extending over small flanking ancillary rooms. Both roofs have the ridge direction nearly perpendicular to the road and are covered with red (OVH) tiles. Halfway along the ridge of the church roof stands a square roof turret with a tapered slate-covered base, an open timber central section with a round opening in each side and above this a slate-covered spire provided with a splayed base and crowned by a weathervane. The outer facades are built in red machine-made headers in alternating bond with struck joints above a course of plaster-jointed work (the same brickwork) with a bevelled sandstone top edge. The side facades are finished at the top with a frieze of ornamental brickwork above which is a cornice gutter on moulded pegs. The end east and west facades are executed as a spout gable provided with lozenges and faced with sandstone. Sandstone is also used for the sills of the windows. The springing points of the relieving arches above the windows are executed in stone. In the west facade flanked by buttresses are on the left and right a small bricked-up window (between which was formerly a shallow entrance portico with a gabled roof), and in the middle at the top three arched windows of which the central one is taller. Both side facades are divided by buttresses into six bays. Each bay is provided with a tall arched window (bricked-up in the south facade).
The east facade of the former choir is executed as a scaled-down version of the east facade of the church hall and likewise faced with sandstone and provided with lozenges. Against this facade adjoins an open portico whose lean-to roof is covered with red (OVH) tiles. On either side thereof the east facade is provided with a tall arched (and bricked-up) pointed window. Around the corner is a similar window in the narrow sides of the choir. The aforementioned ancillary rooms on either side of the choir are each provided with two windows.
Internally the raking roof truss rests on five trusses reinforced by tie-rods, the wall posts of which are provided with corbels and are placed on consoles set high in the wall.
Valuation
The church building from 1908 is of general importance as a historical-functional component of the Duin en Bosch hospital complex.
