Wooden PRE-FABRICATED DWELLING from the 'Strømmen Trævarefabrik' in Christiania, the present-day Oslo. This concerns type 2, no. 1955. This type 1955 is based on a Norwegian barn ('stabur'). Description

Wooden house with rectangular floor plan consisting of a narrower lower storey and an overhanging upper storey terminated by a gabled roof covered with red Tuile du Nord tiles.

The ridge of the gabled roof is crowned with a wooden carved roof finial. In the left gable end is a brick chimney which extends far above the ridge to serve the hearth on the ground floor. The house stands on six brick piers with natural stone coping stones. The facades are constructed in horizontal rabbeted sections. The wooden planks are half-lapped at the corners with continuous ends. These ends widen upward to a corbel to support the upper storey, respectively the gabled roof. The facades contain multi-light windows, coupled and pivoting windows flanked on either side by clamped shutters with a centrally carved heart motif. On the front at ground level there is a stoop and on the upper storey a balcony with wooden balustrade. The entrance section is centrally located on the ground floor in the FRONT FACADE (south facade), consisting of a wooden, modified door. The door, originally horizontally divided, is fitted with diagonal boarding in a diamond motif. Two brick steps give access to the wooden stoop in front of the entrance section, with wooden balustrade supported by two brick piers. Centrally on the upper storey is a double glazed door flanked on either side by wooden clamped shutters. The facade is terminated by a gable with overhanging gabled roof and moulded bargeboards.

The LEFT SIDE FACADE (west facade) is a blank facade with on the right at ground level the projecting stair section with vertical boarding. Beneath it is a non-original toilet.

On the ground floor in the REAR FACADE (north facade) are two coupled eight-light windows with on the upper storey three coupled eight-light windows. Both windows are flanked on either side by shutters. The rear facade is terminated like the front facade.

Centrally on the ground floor in the RIGHT SIDE FACADE (east facade) are three coupled eight-light windows flanked on either side by shutters. On the upper storey are two regularly spaced windows consisting of two coupled four-light windows flanked on either side by shutters.

In the INTERIOR the inside of the wooden facades is visible with additionally installed wooden partition walls. The window openings are enclosed by a moulded window frame.
