Inleiding

Introduction

Double villa of the VILLA type built in 1933 to designs by architect TH. RUETER from Blaricum, who adhered to anthroposophical design principles, in Gooi country house style on behalf of Mrs S. Stenfert Kroese and Mrs Kalff. The detached country house is situated on the east side of the Apeldoornseweg outside the built-up area of Hattem.

Description

Double villa with butterfly-shaped floor plan consisting of alternating one or two storeys enclosed by a reed-thatched, composite hipped roof with wooden overhang. The L-shaped floor plans of the two dwellings are more or less mirrored, with at the ends a sloping lower wing for the garage. The composite roof with varying ridge height and unequal roof slopes is provided with various attached hipped and gabled roofs. In the composite roof there are several square brick chimney shafts which extend above the ridge. The ridges are fitted with banked, baked ridge tiles. At the junction of the two dwellings there is on the ridge a wooden roof turret with bell enclosed by a reed-thatched conical spire with finial and weathervane. The façades with tuff stone and drip moulding are, as far as the ground floor is concerned, largely constructed in stretcher bond in red-brown brick. Where there is an upper storey, this is corbelled out and supported by wooden blocks constructed in horizontal timber-rendered sections. The rendered gable ends consist of vertical sections. In the façades are rectangular casement windows with wooden drip bars on the top side closed by a drip moulding, double glass doors and an oval clamped door at the location of the two entrance bays. In the sandstone voussoir of the parabolic arch above each entrance a ram, respectively a lion is sculpted. The sculpture refers to the zodiac signs of the clients. The identical entrance bays of the two dwellings are located in the FRONT FAÇADE. This south façade is virtually symmetrical with the exception of the right gable end, which is larger than the left gable end with three coupled multi-pane windows instead of two. At the far left is the long timber-rendered façade of the garage with two coupled six-pane windows. The timber façade is followed by a brick façade with a higher ridge. In this façade is a glass door with six-pane sidelight, a six-pane window and two coupled six-pane windows. In the roof slope is a chimney for the kitchen. The brick façade is followed by the three-sided entrance bay in the corner of the L-shape. The entrance bay consists of a parabolic, clamped door on the top side closed by an identical arch with sandstone born stones, arch stones and voussoirs with on both sides sandstone quoins. Immediately to the right of the entrance is a pull rod as a doorbell. In the narrow sides of the entrance bay is a narrow, high leaded window on the underside closed by a drip moulding, on the upper side by a rooster comb. Below the left window is a natural stone letterbox. On each corner of the entrance bay is a moulded corbel with natural stone console to support the overhanging, vertically rendered gable end with blocks. In the gable end with moulded wind verges are a rectangular window with therein two coupled parabolic leaded windows. The entrance bay is closed by an attached gabled roof with half-hipped end. To the right of the entrance bay is a large six-pane leaded window followed by a three-sided bay window. The bay window is constructed in brick with on the ground floor two coupled multi-pane windows closed by a drip moulding. The bay window ends below the roof overhang with two leaded windows with on both sides one leaded window. To the right of the bay window runs the imaginary axis of symmetry on which the left half can be mirrored to make the right half visible.

The LEFT SIDE FAÇADE consists of the gable end of the garage of the left dwelling (no. 13) of which the entrance vestibule with corner posts is closed with timber-rendered sections.

The REAR FAÇADE (north façade) is also symmetrical in layout, but in detail the dwellings are different. Centrally, on the ground floor, is a loggia supported by one column with on the upper storey a terrace with wooden balustrade. The roof is crowned here by the roof turret. To the left and right of the loggia are the left and right dwellings. Both dwellings are built up from a ground floor of brick, a corbelled-out upper storey of timber, closed by a reed-thatched roof with at the end a timber gable end. On the ground floor there are an irregular number of single-pane windows and single-pane glass doors. On the upper storey are the same windows with glazing bars with also on the right an internal loggia. In the gable end are on the left three, on the right two coupled four-pane windows. Both corners are emphasized by a round bay window with single-pane windows, closed by a reed-thatched conical attachment. Around the conservatory is a brick flower bed closed with a drip moulding. The left and right outer sides of the L-shape are constructed from a brick ground floor, a corbelled-out, timber upper storey closed by a side roof. In the roof is a roof dormer and a chimney for the fireplace in the living room. The window arrangement differs from each other. At the ends the brick façade transitions into the timber-rendered long façade of the garage.

The RIGHT SIDE FAÇADE consists of the gable end of the timber-constructed garage of the right dwelling (no. 15) with entrance vestibule and corner posts. The corner posts rest on brick foundations which are connected via a low brick wall to the brick foundation of the garage. Centrally is a double hinged joinery door.

The INTERIOR is largely in its original state. Noteworthy are among other things the layout, the tile floor in the hall, the beam ceilings with in the living room moulded corbel supports, timber doors and a timber staircase with closed flight. Originally all the timber work was executed unpainted.
