Inleiding

Description
Complex Component 21
Introduction
The former CLOISTER "Stella Matutina" was built in 1922-1923 on behalf of the Heilig-Land-Stichting for the Montfortian Fathers according to a design by architect J. Stuyt. The Heilig-Land-Stichting had been negotiating with the Montfortian Fathers since 1919 regarding their establishment on the Foundation's grounds. In the contract signed in 1922, the Foundation committed itself to the construction of a cloister, while the fathers were tasked with guiding visitors along the monuments on the grounds. Furthermore, the fathers were closely involved in the editing of the journal 't H. Land and in conferences organized at the pilgrimage house "Casa Nova". The cloister was consecrated on 3 April 1923. The building is currently in use as an office building of the Bijbels Openluchtmuseum.
The detached building, situated on somewhat elevated ground, is still located on the grounds of the Bijbels Openluchtmuseum, and is situated on the south side of the Mgr. Suyslaan next to the original entrance of the Heilig-Land-Stichting. Directly to the north lies the Mgr. Suysplein with the Cenakelkerk, the rectory and the pilgrimage house "Casa Nova".
Description
Partially cellarage building of one and two storeys with flat roofs on a rectangular ground plan. The western bay with the main entrance is single-storey. The remaining four bays are two-storey (the stairwell is executed somewhat lower). The overhang of the flat roofs rests on worked corbels (stepped).
The brick FACADES are laid in English bond and above the ashlar course plastered white. The ashlar course extends to the window-drip sills of the ground floor and is closed off by a roll course. At the level of the storey floor, in the centre of each window axis there is a white tile on which the Jerusalem Cross is depicted in red. The second storey is articulated horizontally by three projecting bands at the level of the window sills. These bands and the window drip sills are painted green.
The recessed wall openings are provided with a moulded plastered frame. The frames in combination with the windows positioned deep in the wall create a striking facade relief with considerable light and shadow effects. The windows, with single-pane casement windows and square single-pane fanlights, are single and executed as two- or three-light. An exception to this are the windows in the north facade at the location of the stairwell. In this bay there is a cellar light in the ashlar course, a rectangular single-pane window with two flanking toilet windows on the first storey, a three-part wooden frame with calf and coloured leaded-glass windows on the second storey. All facades have a regular and almost symmetrical arrangement.
On the north-east side there is a single-storey white plastered outbuilding with flat roof, which is connected via a white plastered gateway with sagging-back and attached round-arch door to the north-eastern corner of the main building. The west facade is provided with two buttresses and a rectangular window with three-light. The remaining facades are subdivided by pilasters into each two rectangular wall panels. The north facade is blank. The east facade has a four-pane casement window. In the south facade there are straight-closed wooden doors, a four-pane casement window and a rectangular window with three-light (horizontal glazing bars). The layout of the soberly executed INTERIOR consists on both storeys of a central corridor with rooms on either side (mostly the width of one window axis). Several rooms retain original and simply executed elements, such as a black marble fireplace mantel, wooden wainscoting and a cupboard with double panel door and moulded frame. The wooden staircase with two runs is provided with straight balusters and moulded handrails with curved ends.
