Inleiding
De NEGENDE STATIE "Christus valt de derde keer" is tussen 1916 en 1931 in opdracht van de Heilig-Land-Stichting uitgevoerd in de vorm van kunstmatig vervaardigde 'ROTS' met een MOZAIEKVOORSTELLING naar ontwerp van Piet Gerrits en uitgevoerd door de firma P. Beyer & Söhne-Mosaik-Köln. Het object is gesitueerd naast de kruisberg op het hoogste punt van het terrein van de rooms-katholieke begraafplaats.
In 1915 werden op palmzondag 14 eenvoudige gedenkstenen geplaatst als tekens van Christus' kruisweg door de straten van Jeruzalem. Een aantal van deze kruiswegstaties is in de periode 1916-1931 verduidelijkt door bouwsels en/of figuratieve voorstellingen in reliëf of mozaïek. Dit object maakt binnen het complex van de Heilig-Land-Stichting onderdeel uit van het thema "lijdensweg van Christus".
Omschrijving
Dit object betreft een uit beton opgetrokken kleine 'ROTS' met afgevlakte bovenzijde. In de zuidwand leidt een rechthoekig portaal en twee treden naar een kleine grafkelder in de rots. Aan de westzijde is een rechthoekige nis uitgespaard waarin een MOZAIEKVOORSTELLING is geplaatst. Op de voorgrond van de voorstelling knielt Christus neer aan de voet van de berg Golgota. Simon grijpt het kruis en drukt het tegen zijn borst. Achter Hem staan de treurende Maria en Magdalena, gevolgd door een stoet. Links jaagt een soldaat met zijn lans de farizeeër, schriftgeleerde en priester terug. Links op de achtergrond trekken donkere wolken samen boven de oude tempel die wordt getroffen door de bliksem. Rechts op de achtergrond gaan lichtstralen uit van het brood en de wijn die staan opgesteld op het altaar op de berg Golgota.

Introduction
The NINTH STATION "Christ falls the third time" was executed between 1916 and 1931 by order of the Heilig-Land-Stichting in the form of an artificially made 'ROCK' with a MOSAIC REPRESENTATION to a design by Piet Gerrits and executed by the firm P. Beyer & Söhne-Mosaik-Köln. The object is situated beside the Crucifix Hill at the highest point of the Roman Catholic cemetery.
In 1915, on Palm Sunday, fourteen simple memorial stones were placed as signs of Christ's way of the cross through the streets of Jerusalem. A number of these stations of the cross were clarified in the period 1916-1931 by structures and/or figurative representations in relief or mosaic. Within the complex of the Heilig-Land-Stichting, this object forms part of the theme "Passion of Christ".
Description
This object is a small 'ROCK' built of concrete with a flattened top. In the south wall a rectangular portal with two steps leads to a small burial chamber in the rock. On the west side a rectangular niche is recessed in which a MOSAIC REPRESENTATION is placed. In the foreground of the representation Christ kneels at the foot of Mount Golgotha. Simon grasps the cross and presses it against his chest. Behind Him stand the mourning Mary and Magdalene, followed by a procession. On the left a soldier drives back the Pharisee, scribe and priest with his lance. On the left in the background dark clouds gather above the old temple which is struck by lightning. On the right in the background rays of light emanate from the bread and wine which are arranged on the altar on Mount Golgotha.
