Inleiding
MONUMENT, gelegen aan de noordzijde van de Van Heemstraweg, op de grens met de gemeente Woudrichem. Het monument is in 1904 opgericht ter gelegenheid van de scheiding van Maas en Waal in 1883.
Beschrijving:
Het monument bestaat uit een basement van twee liggende platen graniet, waarop een plaat graniet verticaal is geplaatst. Deze laatste plaat is aan de achterzijde ruw behakt. Aan de voorzijde is hij grotendeels vlak en voorzien van een opschrift en van de twee rivieren, stilistisch weergegeven in de vormentaal van de art nouveau. Het opschrift en de twee rivieren zijn in hoogreliëf.
Het opschrift luidt: "18.augustus 1904 is deze steen onthuld door hare majesteit koningin Wilhelmina in tegenwoordigheid van zijne koninklijke hoogheid den prins der nederlanden, hertog van mecklenburg, ter gedenking van de scheiding van maas en waal. wet van 26 januari 1883, staatsblad nº 4". Het (koperen?) plaatje waarop waarschijnlijk de naam van de beeldhouwer stond, is verwijderd.

MONUMENT, situated on the north side of the Van Heemstraweg, on the border with the municipality of Woudrichem. The monument was erected in 1904 on the occasion of the separation of Maas and Waal in 1883.
Description:
The monument consists of a base of two granite slabs lying horizontally, on which a granite slab is placed vertically. This latter slab is roughly dressed on the rear side. On the front it is largely smooth and furnished with an inscription and with the two rivers, stylistically represented in the formal language of Art Nouveau. The inscription and the two rivers are in high relief.
The inscription reads: "18.august 1904 this stone was unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Wilhelmina in the presence of His Royal Highness the Prince of the Netherlands, Duke of Mecklenburg, in commemoration of the separation of Maas and Waal. Act of 26 January 1883, Official Journal No. 4". The (copper?) plate on which probably the name of the sculptor stood, has been removed.
